Trans doesn't have more than 10k on fresh rebuild. Causes some knock when it does it. It revs during shift and takes about 4 seconds to shift to 3rd. I guess first start is pull pan and look for metal shavings. When a trans starts doing this, is it usually a quick/cheap fix or complete rebuild required to fix it? Thanks, Tim

The dreaded 2-3 flare is pretty much the nail in the coffin. Once they start doing that, stick a fork in 'em, they're done.

It's rebuild time using good parts, or just buy a good built trans from a reputable 200R4 builder.

When mine started doing that I sent it in for a "freshen up". I don't know what exactly they do, but it did the trick for $500.

Time for a rebuild. The directs are most likely burned. Dual feed the directs and that should get rid of the problem.

If you have a flare the damage is most likely already done to the direct clutches. I had the same issue and when I took my trans apart, the low roller clutch frictions had started coming off and the pepper like particles caused the boost valve to stick in the valve body causing a line pressure drop. When this happened to me there was an apparent issue with a certain brand of clutches. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Thanks for all of the comments and advise. I have not been beating on it since it is doing this but it drives fine as long as I don't do wide open blasts. Hopefully it's not too tore up inside. If I can get away with $500 to fix it, I'd be happy. TIm
