ok im building a 3.8 with real good iron heads, a roller cam, forged pistons, etc. im looking for a turbo i can run low 11/hi 10s on pump gas and slicks and one that will really kick with racegas. not wanting to push over 30 psi also. it will be a BB turbo. do you think i should go with a 72 or a 66, q or p trim? i hear a 72 Q trim really kickcs ass and with a good ~3500 stall it will spool to 25 psi in less than a second if you brake boost it to 1 psi. if going from a stand no boosting i hear its got about 2 secs lag to full boost. thats not bad imo. anyone got any experience with this setup and/or recommendations?

huh?

where did you hear that?

maybe with a 1000 hp motor.........

IMO High 10s /low 11s aint gonna happen on pump gas with a 109,no matter the turbo size.

Im putting a 72 on my car but its a p trim,.63 a/r,with a 3200 stall and a transbrake.John Craig recomended that I go with a p trim for a streetable car.I think with a q trim youd be looking at 4K minimum stall.I too was looking at a BB turbo but Limit doesnt make one if your wondering.HTH

WOW, from a 49 to a 72? Thats a big jump. I would go with a 66 or a TE 45 a for low 11s. No matter what turbo you get, high 10s is not an easy thing on pump gas. I ran a 11.0h at 118 with a medium launch at 14 psi. My car is not tuned for that low of boost . So a perfectly tuned car with a 70-72 could do it. I know its been done, but not every one can nail it right.

HTH ;)

sorry woody, i meant a 72 with BB, not std. and i heard it from a BB 72 q-trim user. even if it was a second slower thatd still be cool cuz you can always build more boost.

broke1, im sure theres a big difference in spool with the BB. esp with a bigger converter. id settle for low 11s on alky but id like to buy once and be done with it.

louie, yes its a big jump but the whole motor will be getting an upgrade at the same time. just think if you had run alcohol. prob woulda hit 10s. or you just coulda launched it harder ;)

russ, thank you for the example

Sorry to prove you wrong on that one. Times in the sig for SlowGray on Amoco 93-octane @ 18psi. Needless to say there's much more heat to come!

I don't have any experience with a 72, but I currently have a double BB 70 P trim on my car and it spools fast.......it still needs rpm to spool, so at least a 3500 converter is necessary...flash to 4-4500

I am not convinced that the BB turbo is any better than anything else if properly matched to the converter......still evaluating

Woody you water cool that thing?

I only need 3200 stall to spool mine up just fine, but no heads and cam as of yet.

I only run 24lbs. of boost too. :D
