I hope you guy's and gal's can help me.

Heres my problems
* 1-2 slip under throttle
* reverse chatters under load
* Does not shift into 4th
Tranny shifts softly every gear except forth while cruising.

Heres what I have.
82 buick regal
350 ci slight mods. (eg. intake, headers, 650 holley carb. vac. sec.)
3.23 rear limited slip

Heres my line pressures @ 1000 rpm when cold
min. max
P 60 60
R 120 120
N 65 65
OD 80 110
D 80 110
2 210 210
1 220 220

Heres my line pressures @ 1000 rpm when warmed up
P 120 120
R 120 120
and 120 psi for all the rest.

Now heres what I/ve done to trans.
pump
* 10 vane rotor with new pump slide and rings chrome moly
forgot to put dual slide spring in. (using single stock spring)
*increased size of drain back hole to 9/64
*all new band and frictions
*increased size of servo to gn
*no mods to valve body
*all check balls in stock locations
* no shift kit
I Haven't been driving this car at all, except for tests.

this tranny was out of 84 olds delta 88 307 ci.

Wow!

Nice post. You certainly did a good job providing information.

That said, your problem lies in a lack of pressure rise. You're 60-80 psi short of where you should be at maximum pressure. (If you'd installed a stiffer pressure regulator spring & bigger boost valve your max. pressures should be north of 200 psi.)

The TV valve could be stuck in the valve body. When you increase your throttle, do the shift points extend correspondingly? If so, the TV system is responding and you've got a pressure problem.

To diagnose your pressure problem, first disassemble the PR assembly in the pump to be sure that both boost valves are properly oriented and not sticking. If all looks fine there, drop the valve body and take a look there especially at the TV limit valve and line bias valves.

If those are OK, I'm afraid you'll need to pull the transmission and go back inside the pump to check the assembly, slide seals, clearances, etc.

Nice to hear from you Meanbuicks

Thanks for the compliment about the completeness of my post. I really appreciate you reading through my post. I have tried searching through similar posts, but have fallen short of finding an answer. I was really concerned about the dual slide spring being forgotten, actually when I recieved the rotor and 10 vane assembley, I wasn't sure where the springs went until it was too late. You don't think that could be a problem do you? Maybe the stock spring can't handle the extra pressure of a 10 vane system.
But I also think TV might be jammed because there really is no differance in pressures between min. and max values. If worse comes to worse I will just rip the trans. out and do the pump section again. I also have to talk to bruce about getting his PR system and a shift kit. His system seems the way to go. Anyways thanks for repling Meanbuicks.
I love this fricken board, everybodies so helpful.

Oh Oh
Hi chris718
that scenerio is very possible, I know I had alittle trouble with that part of the rebuild. But I did go by the atsg manual. I'll have to check that again.
What do you think about the single slide spring? Would that give low pressure? Should I have put the double in? I don't mind ripping this thing out, if I have to replace it. Thanks chris718.

ONE SPRING WILL NOT CAUSE LOW PRESSURE BUT WILL CAUSE REDUCED PUMP OUTPUT BY REDUCING THE PUMPS INTAKE OIL.ALSO ONE SPRING CAN CAUSE THE SLIDE TO OSCILLATE AT HI RPM WHICH CAN CAUSE BREAKAGE ABOVE 5600 RPMS .THIS IS MORE LIKELY W/ A BOOST VALVE OVER .500.WE PUT A BOLT IN PLACE OF THE SPRINGS SO THE SLIDE CANT MOVE AT ALL .WWW.CKPERFORMANCE.COM .THIS ALLOWS MAX VOLUME AT ANY RPM.
