OK so after reading a bunch of these posts.I am getting more confused on what to do. I am just putting in the low beam kit. Do I need to use a relay or not?

It would seem to be a wise thing to do.....unless you're a gambling man?

OK then what would be the correct way to wire it using a relay. I am not good at wiring unless I have a diagram or instructions to do it. worst case I have a buddy that is good at this stuff that might be able to draw me up a diagram

Buy the hid relay off ebay, it should come with directions. Off of the top of my head, one wire to ground, red wire to battery, one relay wire hooks to each ballast, and one wire from the relay plugs into the passenger side stock headlight plug.

A number of variables. I believe the "digital" ballasts are a little less power hungry coupled with the particular condition of your wiring
come into play, I know of one car where the existing wire would not support startup of both sides.Unplugging one and the other would work.

Yes, it will work all "plug-n-play" hid kits, I'm not saying it won't work, but the age of the wiring in our car and the startup after start up of the hids will eventualloy take it's toll on the stock wiring or your headlight switch. I have peace of mind by knowing that I'm drawing my power from the battery rather than the headlight switch wiring.

"Davelostmissing" sent me a nice diagram of how to hook up the HIDs so they all light up. He shows the driver side stock connector (high and low) hooked up with a diode to a relay, then from the relay one side to the battery then one connector to the high and low beams of the HIDs, then from there to the battery........what I'm confused about is do I use only ONE relay per pair of HID lights running from the stock outside connector that powered the original Halogen high/low beam and just tape up the original connector that powered the high beam Halogen? In other words, one relay per pair and one diode per pair of HID lights. Also, should I use a 30 amp relay or a 40 amp relay?

John Spina...I sure wish you'd chime in on this one........you know you're the best on these matters so would you help an old dying man here?

To me that looks like both hi and low will be on all the time,unless that is for the high beam circuit only. I would use 1 relay on each side. Someone chime in if I am wrong.

I want the low to stay on when you switch to high beams, that's what the diode does. One can do it with two relays, your choice.

So, Dave, you're saying that I use one relay for each pair of lights, right? Or will only one relay take care of all four HIDs?

Please clarify for me one more time..........I want to get this right the first time.

A 30 amp relay is plenty for a pair of ballasts.
IF you leave the diode out and just plug into the high terminal on that diagram it would then be applicable to the high beam circuit.

Uh.......Dave......I may be a little dense here, but.......could you explain your second sentence a little clearer...I'm somewhat confused and aging very fast...........sorry...........so, re-explain for me, please, just a little clearer for me if you don't mind.........AND......thank you for your fast reply!

I've been watching this tread for awhile now and I personally replaced my high and lows with "salvania silverstars". I always thought they were bright enough, but now I'm curious.

Does any anyone know how much of a difference between the HIDs and the silverstars might be?
