I will be switching to Amsoil. Since I have a 150k plus engine. Should I switch to a higher viscosity. I live in Hawaii so...don't have to worry bout the cold.

Note: I have a few "oil" threads. I like to separate questions so it will be easier for people to search for a particular topic. Specific questions can get lost in the sea of "oil" questions.

.

I don't see why. Any good 10W-40W oil should be ok. Is the motor all stock?

only reason to go to a thicker oil would be if you were trying to bandaid engine wear. If you have good oil pressure run what you've been running. In general run the thinnest oil you can run and still achieve adequate pressure.

I think the jury is still out on Amsoil. I searched Amsoil and Scamsoil and found various opinions. My car picked up 2lbs of oil pressure going from 10W-30 RP to 10W-30 Amsoil and I have noticeably less blow by out the breathers with it. I'm still probably switching to Brad Penn with ZDDP added still, but these are my real world results so far. I never run more than 3k miles on the oil no matter what I put in. I'd like to finally settle on one though.

The previous owner was running castrol 10w30 dino oil. I know this is an old debate and will get opinions for both sides. I just dont see how dino oil can stand the head of going through the turbo. I'm no expert. From all the opinions I see..... ZDDP is a safe bet. I don't know if Amsoil is snake oil.... But would like some full synthetic oil. Did not know till recently that full synthetic was not really FULL synthetic. Guess full synthetic just means it has synthetic addatives to dino oil. Mobile 1 and most other "full synthetic" oil cost about five bucks and some change here in the islands. I can get amsoil for about eight bucks a bottle. Unless it is going to hurt my 160k plus engine then I think I will go with amsoil. Instead of trying to ship in some zddp. May still add some zddp to the amsoil. But should I bump it up to 40w from 30w considering the mileage. Don't care if I loose a few HP.
