On the show they showed them putting in the msd 4 box. I know most people above 10seconds run the stock box. I also saw someone in another post call the msd box "crappy."

So my question, why don't we change out to a msd box until the car is in the 9s?

MSD most likely paid to have their parts installed for the airtime. Thats the only reason they were installed..

I get that part. I know our ignition is pretty good from the factory, buy why is it that we use the factory system over an msd box? Every other buildup: ford, chevy, dodge etc uses msd boxes. Is the factory TR ignition better than an MSD box?

The MSD box is "supposed" to provide a hotter, better, more stabile spark at high RPM and boost.

On my low 10 sec. car, runs the same with or w/o the MSD connected. So, stock Buick ignition is very good and will handle most TR's without the need for a supplemental box.

I know the older HEI ignitions are good for about 5500 rpm then get flackey unless you upgrade the module. I can see using a box on a 7000 rpm sbc or something like that. I don't think I have ever seen one on a TB or never noticed it.

It seems that most of the guys running 9.80s or better are running a msd box.

Most run the MSD Dis4 because of the two step feature tied into the transbrake for launch boost and rpm control.that and that only.Msd has had trouble with the dis 4 on the turbo Buicks burning coil packs up .supposed to be fixed now but no one knows.. also if you ask them they will say they didnt have a problem but they redesigned it and yes they did!
