Home Split AC not working.

Before I call the AC repairman. Thought I would look online. I have a Fujitsu Halcyon inverter split system. The unit inside the house powers on. All the lights and buttons work. Makes all the beeps. INSIDE Fan works. OUTSIDE the fan is not coming on. Pulled the service disconnect waited a few minutes and put it back in. Is there anything an AC "idiot" can try before calling in the big guns?

Contacter inside the outside unit may have failed. Outside unit is also probably on its own breaker so check that.

Need a volt meter to verify power at the out side contact. Then verify signal power.

There is a disconnect switch outside near the ac unit. You just pull the plug out. I assume you just put an AC multimeter on each side to test???? Should it be 22ov? Been checking out a lot of youtube videos. Looks like the Fan motor or run/start capacitor is a common problem. Only basing that on the amount of videos I have found. Saw a video on the relay/contacter. Think I need to get an AC multimeter. Don't think mine has an AC setting. Have seen some videos about leaving the power on the AC system and pull the disconnect plug and put it back in to hear if the relay is working. Is this a good idea?

Yes you should have 220 across the contact. And 24vac at the coil.

Would the Capacitor, Fan and Contacter be available at home depot or lowes? Or do I need to contact a HVAC repair guy?

Some of the frequency drive systems (inverter) may not be using contactor relays to turn the system on/off.. these are technical systems these days and may require factory support or knowledge of their trouble shooting guide for diagnosis. Voltage on these types of systems can remain for an unknown period of even when the disconnect has been pulled... BEWARE. How old is system? Waranty? Factory book? Support number?

It's about 5 to 6yrs old. Cant find my paperwork. Found the sales brochure that says 2007 product line. States 2yr parts and 6yr compressor warranty. It may fall under the 6yr mark by a hair if I can find my paper work. Would a compressor problem keep the fan from turning on?

Just turned on the AC unit and walked out side. The main unit shows no sign of life or sound. Not sure if this helps but it is a Heat and AC unit.

Sounds like the outside unit is not getting power. If the obvious things like breakers and/or fuses have been checked the next step is to access the controls and do some testing with volt meter.

Are you able to access the controls of the outside unit?

s1,s2 from outdoor to indoor wall mount will be 220. however s3 is a modulated voltage and uses this for communication between the two. i think s3 will be 65 to 95 volts. u should also see a diagnostic light in the outdoor unit that gives up its secretes even if its satisfied. no power of course the light will not be lit.

Some have very small fuses in the circuit board start there.
Give me a model and serial number of the condenser outside.

Is it possible to check and see if the fan turns and not seize. Make sure the power disconnected and turn off before you try to turn the fan by hand

Finally got an AC multimeter. Will check to see if the fan is seized and getting voltage to the unit.

On a side note. Sears has a sale on this multimeter if anyone is interested. Only thing I could find in this price range ($11) were those test lights and super duper cheap looking analog toys. Can't give it a review yet but it looks pretty durable and has a lot of functions for $11 and getting it locally. It was in the normal area with all the other multimeter. Found it in a clearance bin. Look for the model number and they will give it to you for the sale price.

Do not buy a cheap multimeter unless you are sure the it is fused for checking continuity. It will kill you.

The service plug reads 233v. I have another unit next to it that works. I swapped out the plug just in case. Still no joy. Will pull the top later and see if the fan is seized and any obvious problems.

The unit next to it could be key! Schematic for the electrical circuit may be inside cover panel.. if you can read it.. you start checking control circuit. Probable 24 volt control circuit. Find the supply and check the differences between the units.Stick something into fan and give a twirl (slender screwdriver) (not the one that's operational lol) probably no need to remove cover.probably using "R" as 24v supply and "C" as common.
