Ok, I have fixed hundreds of wrecked cars and dealt with hoods that wouldn't pop open, bent hinges etc. Well, today I popped the hood on my T, it sprung open like normal, but the hinge(s) seemed to be stuck in the closed position. It felt like the driver side hinge was locked closed.I shut it and something clicked and now it won't pop open the front either! Anybody ever have the hinges lock up in the closed position before?

Hi,
Unless that hinge is truly messed up,due to rust or something, I am guessing you have a bad hood strut. You may have to give it a nudge from underneath. I wouldn't advise prying it up. Get an assitant to work the release while you play around with the hood.Easy does it on that old release cable!

Might try to...

push down on the hood, while someone else pulls on the release. The hinge may be holding upward pressure on the hood causing the release to hang.

I had the same problem and if you have an 87 grill you can get in there throght the openings with a 1/4 drive socket and take the latch loose and it will open.

I got it

I had the upper radiator support plate off because I am upgrading under the hood and when I closed the hood the spring compressed, slipped over and the coils wedged onto the radiator support. Fortunately my intercooler and radiator were out so I could crawl under the car, pry off the spring and push up on the hood while the girlfriend pulled the hood latch :o

Moral of the story....don't shut your hood with the radiator support plate off.
