200-4R, has the wrong speedo gears. Off by about 20%. Shop quoted me $110 to change the gearing. I can buy parts for $50 from BTO. Is it worth the $60 for me to do it myself?

I just ordered a new speedo gear for my 200r4 from TCI for $15.00 plus shipping.I am going from a turbo 350 to the 200r4 and i changed the rear gears and larger tires.

Buffalo dude , I did a search and found it. It says to remove cable, remove 10mm bolt and use a flat screwdriver to pry on bullit where the retainer was and remove it.Then you should be able to remove gear.Lube new gear and replace everything in reverse order.I will be doing this also on my trans conversion.

For the 2004r, the drive gear is on the govenor and if that needs to be changed, would involve dropping the pan and removing the governor.

However the driven gear is located on the side of the trans where the cable goes and is easily repaced by removing the holddown bolt and popping the unit out, then replacing the gear.

if you know the number of teeth on the drive gear, you can choose a driven gear that will get you close.

I don't have the CK Manual handy, but it is included there. I also think there are several calculators floating around on the net.....

What they said.

They are easy as pie especially if u dont have to touch the gov gear.

I saw that in partial jest, my luck is either they pop out easy or your in for a fight and your gonna destroy the one your taking out.

later
