About how hot does the turbo heat shield get for a mostly stock 86 GN? I'm having a bunch of stuff powdercoated and I threw in the heat shield at the last minute. My powder guy says his standard powder will withstand 400 degrees. Should I be concerned?

I think so ..............
400F May work fine for the block and heads where temps do not get too high due to the "water cooling effect".
I am not sure how hot the turbo gets and realize there is a range which is dependent on many other variables ...... knock, Alky, etc.
One thing I am sure off ........... the 400 degree paint will last about a about ............ uh 30 min before it burns and changes color.

Are you going to start and drive the car or just show it? (Joke)

OK thanks. I guess I'll err on the side of caution and tell him not to powder it.
Of course it will be driven. :)

powdercoat

The cover on my turbo was powdercoated before I got the car (probably 4 yrs ago), and it's still in fine shape. It never gets any rest either!!

OOOPS! My bad!!!
Thought you were talking about the turbo ..........
Sorry. :(

OK, so the heat shield should be fine with standard powder? I'll tell him to do it then.
