After working on a tune I look back and think about the hours I have spent. For new guys this is something to think about. I have days and weeks of fine tuning to get it where it looks right. Only with Powerlogger and a Wideband was this even possible. I'm sure with FAST it could have been done if half the time. I have a advantage with the Speed Density to really fine tune lots of areas. It requires time and patients. Maybe thats where guys get discouraged. You don't make a few adjustments and everything is set. There is no way to truely get a handle on a good tune without a wideband and some kind of logging system.

I'm just getting started with my tuning and trying to learn how to launch my car at the track....I'm going to be using P.Logger and w/band also....I'm the only guy in our little group of TR's that is trying to do this with alky.....Once you get your AFR dialed in with band and the boost is high enough to get you the et your looking for where do you from there?? What were your methods of trial and error??

I remember back in the day when I had a '86 T-type as a daily driver, and the best scan tool available was the OTC-4000e... I was fine tuning every time I jumped in the car!! :D

I spray alot of alcohol so my tuning was a little more complicated. Dual nozzle. My turbo is happiest at 26-28psi. Got the boost there with no knock very easy. Tuning to 10.5 AF with no correction is where things get more complicated. Trial and error. Then there's timing and rich conditions when the alky first starts spraying. I'm shooting for a 6.70 in the 1/8 without having to touch the present tune. We will see this weekend. I already have run 7.2@100mph so the mph is there for a 6.90 pass. Couldn't get the car to hook off the line. Tuning for no knock with a narrow band is not hard to do but there is so much more that can be improved with the right tools.

My biggest hurdle at the moment is getting rid of the boost spike...It is not drastic but will jump around from 23 to 26lbs in 3rd going down the track...I saw a lean spike on the w/band on my last pass at the track which I thought may have been sloshing of the alky in the reservoir...The more I thought about it, it happened at 96MPH which means the car should have settled in by then and pulling smooth....Now I'm wondering if it is the boost spike causing the issue?? Just saw 1.2* KR...AFR ratio has been around 10.3 to 10.5 so with a single nozel maybe it could be leaned out a bit more??

OTC 2000 here ;)

Grumpy you guys are the acception to the rule.;) When you get old I believe you will be forgetful and let out some of those secrets. I bet you ran a TSM boost setting. Wait. No one knows what the TSM boost setting is.:D 9 second pass tuning with the scanmaster and no wideband. PRICELESS!!! Pump gas and Alky!!!!

hello; Rather than how long have you worked on your tune how about what you did to help your tune? I'm talking regular tuning with a MA cencor. I know all cars are different so what works for some won't work for all. Start with a MA system and go on from there.

Started working on mine in 1997..... hahaha

been a part-time obsession ever since!

Not too much time here, I let TurboTweak and TurboBob handle that.

I do have to change my fan settings from summer to winter and back that sorta takes a bit of time twice a year. o_O

I do have a powerlogger in one car that I've never used. :p

The other car I did have to skew the blm's once, and make up a chart of what the 8 numbers are I have to program into the extender extreme chip should my battery die.

haha me too since 1999..........I only have a scanmaster to use and fuel pressure gauge of course. I just try to set the car up for no knock...on the street I run a very safe amount of boost and when I can make it to the track I dump some fuel in the tank and try to get my o2's where I like them and no knock. I have been threatening to buy a PL and WB for a long time but due to not really going to the track I have not felt it that necessary. Plus having 2 other toys the money is spread real real thin so I just set the car up safe but fun on the street and enjoy it.

Maybe one day I will have more cash to play with the car right now it stays a fun street car!
