How many governor springs??

How many springs are in our 2004r's governor? I've read two and also one. How many are there? I've been having a shifting problem and I am changing my fluid to type F. It only has 1 spring in the governor, is this correct?

Yes 1 Spring, and Ford Oil is a good move.:)

Just took the car back out on the road........not good with the Type F fluid! My torque converter won't lock up now and at 55 mph turning 3200 rpms! Also, under WOT hit rev limiter in 2nd and wouldn't shift from second. I can't believe these tranny's are this sensitive to a fluid change! Back in goes the Dexron III. I am sick of dealing with this just to get a good shift from 1st to 2nd !

The oil shouldnt effect the shift points much at all. Id bet there is something else wrong. Sounds like you are not getting into 4th either. If you have a bad 1-2 you may need a fresh band and drum.

I double that. The OIL is not the problem...

I can not tell a lie. I changed the oil back this morning to Dexron III. I checked the bolts on the governor and I had forgot to tighten them back up when I put the Type-F fluid in! Trans shifts good now. Still slow going from 1-2, but OK otherwise..........you guys were right!
