How many guys run 4.1s, and give some info on build, and ETs. Production blocks!
 


Just took my newest one out last night.

I need to do some tuning tweaks and port the wastegate hole on the GT67.

I have a flat tappet cam,non BB turbo,3400 stall.

Boost is instant,like yesterday instant.

Gave it a little over 1/2 throttle and the boost hit 20#!

The boost setting in the chip is supposed to be 16# but the wastegate hole is most likely the culprit.Hit 25# instantly when I took it to WOT at 40mph and roasted the tires until I let out. I have 93 in the tank and luckily it didn't huirt anything.

The motor has hyper pistons, 214/224 cam,champion irons,Gbody slic,60#ers,and the stall converter,with a gen 2 translator and 4" maf pipe.

I need to figure out the tuning on the gen 2 as it is stalling on me at stops,cruising and WOT are fine.
 
Mine worked great for 2 years. It's currently down due to my bodyshop incident but the engine is still fine. No times but I basically pulled the tired 3.8 and bolted everything to the 4.1. So with the exact same combo, I noticed a little more off boost torque and the most dramatic difference was turbo spool. Night and day difference. I had some severe tuning issues and the engine has seen the worst detonation of any motor I've had and is still going strong.
 
I just had a 4.1 thrown together a few weeks ago, cool 84- I finally used those new pistons i purchased from you many many years ago :)

This will be my second 4.1, and i agree with the off idle torque and boost coming up quick!

I will be using the same combo as the last one, larger 66mm turbo, ported heads and a 218 camshaft. Nothing wrong with mid 11s on low boost, just enough power to start breaking parts :biggrin:

That's cool to hear......Sounds just like the same build I'm currently working on minus the Gen 2.

But what has to be done to the 4.1L to handle boost. Could I put 86/87 parts on and go or does it really need to be built to handle the boost.:confused:

My last one had a 218/218 cam and te63 with a front mount and 3200 stall,Old T+ and extender chip.

Could run low 11's all day on 93 and 16#.Drove it an hour both ways to one of the local 1/8 mile tracks and ran 7.17 and hot lapped it and ran 7.18 @ 98mph without letting any air out of the tires (had 30# in them). Took the car down the track just like I drove it in the gate.No ALKY either.

low compression pistons which are the only ones available.Thats it and bolt up all the 3.8 stuff add about 10% fuel across the board to your 3.8 tune.
 
This is what i wanted to hear, thx for all the replys. Im waiting for the machine shop to say the block checks out, and then ill start my build. I have alot of spare parts to go on, and in this engine. The machine shop said this block has more metal on the deck than the 109, it is a 0044. I know it has alot of meat near the head bolt holes. Anyone else got a 4.1?

That's good to hear! What was that, 2001?
 
10.23 at 132 mph, with stock heads at 25psi
Now thats riding!!! I hope mine gets close to that. The block checked out, so now i got to get 30over pistons, but i cant seem to pull them up on summits web site.
 
I am building mine right now. Broke the 3.8 crank right in half, so the 4.1 is going in with a 6776BB turbo, PTE FMIC, and possibly nitrous.

Stay tuned.
 
This is great, im not the only one that likes more cubes. Im just going to see if i can do it. What you guys think of a 350turbo trans, with a gear vendor?
 
Any one got info on how to half Hard Block a engine? I want to drive it on the street. Do you pour it in with the engine sit as it would in the car, or do you tilt it until the cylinder is level?

i seem to remember you hot-lapping it into the 6's one night against a corvette :D

Yep! those dudes were PISSED! Had no idea what hit them.:p That was also after the tech guy told me no more runs like that without a roll bar and harness!

Shouldn't be too much longer before that motor is doing it again,right? After all it was Marty's motor when I did that,I was just getting the tune up figured out for when we put in Marty's car.
