If I send someone a money order for a part is it any safer than sending them a personal check? I've been ripped off in the past, so I'm just covering myself.

This belongs in the lounge, anyways.........

If you got ripped off then don't send a personal check! Unless you charge it? Visa and Master card has some kind of insurance if you get ripped off.

This is what I've been told: Send Postal money orders.Since the Post Office is a Federal Government operation, if someone tries to screw you in any way, the Postal inspectors get involved real quick & it becomes a Federal matter w/ severe consequences for those caught.

That's what I do also for some protection against fraud. The Post Office MOs are the cheapest too, and you can mail it right out. Allways check the good guy/bad guy list and other internet buying STICKY threads at the top of the For Sale Section of this board. Tim

Get the guy or gal to sign up for paypal and pay through them. Safe and secure. If they don't send the part youcan file a claim with paypal and they will refund your money.

This is the only way to go.

Just to clear somethings up in the banking world. I work at a bank so I know a little extra about bank checks and bank money orders. Even though money orders are considered cash because you physically exchange cash for them (whether its withdrawing money or out of your pocket) they can still be stopped. Bank checks are the same way (not to dig up some not so known facts). Essentially you can go buy a car from someone using a bank check becuase thats what most people want because it doesn't have to "clear" but it can just as easily be stopped and costs less to stop then a personal check. When the bank of the person that sold the car to you (going with my example) tries to collect the funds from the issuing company such as Travelers Express (a company many banks use) it will come back as being stopped and the person would be out of a car and out of the money. Basically, in these days there is no 100% safe way to deal with others. Credit cards are pretty good though especially with $0 liability against fraud and they are easier to get your money back. Don't use a Debit card unless you know the person you are dealing with because it takes a lot more paperwork and time to get your money back. I hope that helps some.. sorry it was so long but I've been screwed once and I like to pass on the knowledge.;)

Ive always used paypal, its nice and fast, plus like said above..safe

If not i just use a bank check.

I thought it took 30 days to stop a bank check or money order?

Should easily clear your bank if you deposit one quick enough.
