While cleaning up my wheels I see bright and hazy areas on the machined fins or vanes or what every you call them. How can I polish the machined areas and then replace the clear coat with what? Is there a simple method to polish the aluminum these wheels are made of? Area between vanes appears to be painted charcoal gray because I can see overspray on the back side of the wheels.. Any help appreciated... mike

I did one of my 85-T wheels, then went GN steel wheels. My 'home' method was to first clean it very well, then wet sand each vane, the center and the rim flange starting with 400 to remove the clear and machine marks, then 800, then 1000. After that I used Mother's aluminum polish to make it all shine. I didn't clear them because I ended up using the GN wheels, but they should be cleared. That one wheel using this method took me 1/2 of a day BTW. There are companies that will re-machine and clear wheels if you want the OE machined look. Just google for them.

HTH,
Bill
