I sugested cleaning the rusty base off due to the fact of preservation. First it will stain up your new carpet. It happened to me in my 84 after I did the carpet I put the buckets back in with rusty brackets and when I went to remove the seat a few years later it made the nice grey carpet look not so nice where the seats were. Biggest reason to clean them would be so you preserve that part. Take it off get it blasted and powdered while your at it. Im a little addicted to powder coating I love the way it cleans parts up and looks.

Upon your suggestion, that's what I'll do then come this spring. Good idea. Makes sense to me. I love powdercoating also.
Thank you for the idea, (a good idea) Will do it. What color did you have yours done it? Black, gray?

I am gonna be starting this project in the spring of 2011. I would probably do black since I could get it done faster at the coating place they do black like every day. I still need to have my front windshield taken out and resealed. Damn T top cars. Anyway a part like that should run $20 to get done its easier than taking wire wheel to it and rattle can it.

I understand you about the windshield. Resealing it is a big plus for you, though.

There's this place I called about 1 1/2 years ago that would powdercoat my wheel well trims for $20 each. I thought that was a HELL of a deal. But, like I usually do, I lost the phone number and location paper.:( I did find it about one week ago, stuck up under all the junk on the refridgerator door (about 1000 little magnets, papers, pictures, reminders, coupons, all that crap) I used to think a nice clean new refridgerator looked so beautiful, until all the little things in life that matter crept up there and stuck themselves on the door. Now I don't even know what color the fridge is. Well, as long as it's stocked with BEER!:D

So, that's where I'll take the shifter assembly as per your idea, when I go there to get the trims powdercoated. The fellas here on this board talked me into it as being the best way to go with longevity and wear resistant for a few years.

If you have your windshield taken out and resealed it shouldn't cost you that much. Just don't be upset if you find some bad rust, as that's a possibility. You might have a leak problem with your T-Tops also, as you can tell by lots of other T-Top owners on this forum. It's a sad fact of life, but you just grin and fix it the best you can. Life's too short to bitch. (like I do:wink:)

It's amazing how many areas can leak on these Regals. I don't see how they can leak anyway as they travel TOO FAST to catch any water.

Again, Stefan, thanks for the idea, and please post a picture of your shifter after you have it powdercoated.
