Help!

My paint looks terrible and I have no money to repaint at the moment. My paint is full of tiny cracks all over the place. It almost looks like spider web. There is nothing cracking on the surface, so it seems like the clear coat is cracking from within. Is this common on GN's?

What, if anything, can I do to revive what's left of my paint to hold me over for ahile?

This is normal for the black Laquer paint that was used on the GNs (there is no clear coat on them). It is called checking and there is no solution except for a strip and repaint.

How deep can the checking go? Do I have to strip the car to the metal?

not really but it's hard to just stop with the top coat.
It's actually easier to go to metal.

As Scott said, there is no other option but to strip it to bare metal.

In the past I've heard that stipping to bare metal should be avoided if possible. I'm guessing it's not worth it in my case to sand down to the facroty primer?

IF the paint is in good condition, no - you shouldn't strip to bare metal (there's no better foundation the the factory paint).
Checking = bad condition.

Liek I said, you can try to sand just the top coat off but it's next to impossible to just stop stripping/sanding at the top coat.
