I want it done right!

Well, took the car in for paint.
Told the shop "I want it done right".
Here is what it looks like for now.
This car is a DD and I expect it to look good when done .........

Take those side windows out!!!
It doesnt come out 100% and if you ever need to change thar window and trim it will not cover the paint right.

Quarter windows need to to be removed, back glass trim removed, and body sanded to bare metal, down to the rock guard.

Yeah if you want it "done right" they need to do more work.... How much are you willing to put into it is a good question!

I expect 4-6 weeks. They are a bit "slow" right now.
Most other places wanted 6-9 months!

I cant believe guys with the Da's
Messy as hell and the sand marks.
I use aircrafe remover,It pulls the paint right off,A bit messy,but they now have a low odor version and auto zone carries it.

another one here to say "pull the rear quarter glass out". only takes 30 min to pull the interior trim and unbolt both glass,then another 30min to clean up all the gooooooop....
the end result will be that much better.me and most everyone else i suspect will look at the quarter glass FIRST to see how good the paint job is.....

You need to remove your rear spoiler completely so the whole car gets painted, it's easy.

Yeah, they will remove that as well.

1/4 panel glass and trim will be removed.

I was told there was some slight surface rust and minor "door dings " in a few spots that had to be sanded for the correct treatment. I thought they were just removing some weight. :tongue:

You have to use a DA on the door dings and rust. I hate chemical stripping! To darn messy and the stuff gets everywhere. I'd rather pony up the bucks and have it soda blasted if I was stripping it down to bare metal. A lot quicker too. The shops around here charge $400-$500 for the average car and it's less than a day turn around.

I did a tapeless paint job on my GN. Anything that was bolted on came off. Front header panel, rear 1/4 extensions etc. That way paint got onto the places where the sun didn't shine and I wouldn't have to deal with any unusuall things between the panel gaps.

I would have put on some spare tires (space savers) so they can sand the lip and paint it correctly. But sounds like your on the right track. Good luck and keep the pics coming.

Your paint will always look better when take the time to remove the easy bolt on stuff. I took my bumper fillers painted off the car as well. That way they aren't painted TO the car if I may have to change them down the road. I pulled all the stuff off my car myself. Took me @4 hours, but made it come out alot better. Regals are rather easy to dismantle

Thanks for the encouragement.

Well, the T-top rails needed some repair on both sides.
The shop formed some sheet metal pieces, and stitch welded them in place.
Bottom of the doors and trunk lid had flash rust as well.
Also got some GM T-top/door seals, and all SS T-top components from GBodyParts. So, the $4K guestemate is on the low side
