IAC question

While checking for trouble codes on the 84 (jumping the ALDL connector) I heard a ticking sound from the IAC and you can feel it also. I removed it and cleaned it with carb cleaner and notice the pintle was far out and some what loose. I heard that you can push it all the way in the reset the IAC. Is this true?

Yes, you can push it in,
yes, you can break it doing that.

When the ALDL is jumped, the ecm fully extends it, so it's not well supported when removed from the car.

It fits into an orfice as it closes, and doesn't wobble as much then.
