I know there has been frustration over the classes available for the Turbo Buicks to run in and I believe Paul G. is frustrated trying to get everyone to run as well. Unfortunately our cars don't fit very well because we're not modified enough or because we have a power adder. Paul has always stated that if we can come up with enough cars for a quick 8 he would put it in for us. For whatever reason, we have not been able to come up with that many cars. With that in mind, I'd like to propose a new class for "real" street cars with any kind of engine power. That would allow Buicks vs. Mustang vs. Camaro vs. Winnebago or whatever.

Rules:
1. Street legal
2. Any engine combination
3. 12.00 index - Breakout in qualifying you go to the next higher class.
Breakout in eliminations you are disqualified.
This rule will allow non-rollbar cars to be competitive. My apologies to Dean and Les but you guys can run with the heavy hitters. Paul-you can turn down the boost.
4. Stock style suspension - heavy duty parts ok
This will eliminate tube frame, back halved, ladder bar cars.

It's pretty much run what you brung for 12-13 sec. cars and will make for interesting match ups. If you guys are interested, I'd like to be the point of contact so Paul G. doesn't have a whole bunch of people telling him diferent stories. Also, I think we should do a pre-registration (money) to make sure people are going to show up.

So what do you guys think?

Greg

That's a very good class you put together. It's very similar to the True Street, which is what we should have been in. We need to get them to see that our cars came from the factory with a TURBO. That is NOT a power adder. It would have been alot funner in that class. I brought that up in the last meeting, and they said if it's a stock turbo, then it's not a power adder. I guess that rule went out the door.

I like your thinking Greg.:D

You'll have to be really specific on what is called street legal.

if you go by Federal law, there are no chip changes, no prom changes, would have to use oem air filter housing, and the list goes on and on.

Streetable, in some folks minds are a trailer queen with a license plate.

Maybe use a ****SPEC**** chip for different classes.
That would force some degree of a level playing field.

Maybe better yet, a spec ecm.
Sealed and supplied to each entry.
Then see who can tune the F/P Boost and chassis best.

The tech inspector mentioned that stock turbo rule when he was looking over my car. I told him that I just replaced the stock turbo with a TE-44 for this race! Think he was going to let me in true street if it was stock. Heck, I don't think any of us at the shootout had a stock turbo.

Wouldn't have mattered. I told him mine was stock, and he still put me in that class.

I think our "street legal" is registered, safety check, insurance. I know those are all easy to get, but we know the TRUE street cars. Maybe they should do laps around the track. I seen some radiators that were smaller than my intercooler.

I guess we'll have to stick with the High Tech class. And even that those Stang's are kick'n a$$:D

So what? Is anybody interested in an EZ Street/High Tech class for less modified cars? How about the Ford guys? fugly? Let me know and I'll try to round up enough cars. I'd like to approach Paul G. about getting it into the Pro Import Series as well as the Fastest Streetcar Shootout.

Some other ideas:

EZ Street/High Tech Street Tire (DOT) - Didn't think this would be that popular because not too many people run drag radials.

EZ Street 2/High Tech 2 - If at least 16 cars enter, the top 8 go in the regular class and the next 8 make up a 2nd class. Cutoff has been about 11.9-12.0. Advantage? No index.

I prefer the 12.0 index because it would guarantee that non-rollbar cars could be contenders.

Come on guys, this is your chance to race competively without butchering your cars and spending $20K on your motor!

I really like your idea for the 12.00 index. There would be many cars that fall under that class. Most of the buicks and just about everyone from bsm. Thats about 15 cars right there. One suggestion on the rules: no electronics(delay box, throttle stop, etc)

No electronics sounds like a good idea. That will keep out the purpose built Pro Gas type cars. Any other ideas?
