Hello all
Well war hasn't kept me from working on the car, i am buying parts, and i am going to purchase the engine management system, i was dead set on the accel gen 7, but after looking at the electromotive system i am kinda split between the two, price being one of my only deciding factors, both can run sequential, wide band o2, they can both work with forced induction, the electromotive also has a distributerless ignition built in, the added expense of the electromotive is offset by the no longer needed ignition components, but being an all inclusive system if it goes bad your screwed, i would like to get some input on either system to help my decision, thanks

They may have improved by now, but we tried Electromotive a few years ago, with little or no luck. They offered to fix the stuff a year or so ago, but it's long gone.

For my money, MSD is the only ignition stuff on the market, and I prefer the FAST as far as aftermarket computers go.

This advice is free, and some say worth what you pay for it.

It kind of depends on what you plan on doing with your car. The new Electromotive 3 system runs at a rate of 16 times per second. That is a great feature, but it only serves a useful purpose on a strip only car. You wouldnt need a feature like that on a street/strip car. The FAST system is one of the best out there. In fact I am getting one this tuesday. User friendly, alot of people who can help you tune, somewhat affordable, and proven to work. The electromotive system is a little faster than the FAST but it isnt really that neccessary. HTH

I'd pass on the electromotive stuff. We have a box full of them that we have removed from vehicles because the owners want something more "usable".

Does the TEC3 have a wide band O2? I was reading the manual the other day and only saw mention of a narrow band O2. ie, they've got O2 correction, but only for idle and cruising, you're supposed to disable it for WOT conditions. A big strike against the TEC3 I would say. Unless they've added that capability lately...

If you are really thinking about it, I'd go get the manual and read up on how it works and how to tune it and see if you think you can handle it. They do things a lot different than DFI and FAST. Not too many TR guys use their stuff (only one I'm aware of is Scott S.), so when looking for others to ask questions of, there's a much bigger knowledge base with the FAST!

The TEC-3 DOES NOT have wide band capability. I purchased the TEC-II for the same reason you think the TEC-3 has wide band capability...it has a Desired-AFR input table, but it doesn't work because it utilizes the narrow band sensor. (Why they retained that inoperative feature from the TEC-II to the TEC-3 is beyond me).

I will note that the TEC-4 is being worked out that will include wide-band O2 control, but it isn't out there yet. If you want the real answer, call Fred or James in the Tech Department at Electromotive (703) 331-0100. Fred will remember me. :D
