I beleive that a partially clogged fuel filter cost me a head gasket.
About a month ago I took out a head gasket when the car leaned out at the track. Changed the gasket, went to the track put in 116 made a pass and the O2's were 757! (Thank goodness for the race gas.) I had to bump FP to 48# to run 20# of boost. Changed my fuel filter - which was only 2 years old - went to the track 22# of boost, 45# FP and O2's were 808.
I think if you drain and refill your tank using jugs a lot, you need to change the fuel filter often. I know I will replace mine every Spring. Filters are much cheaper than doing head gaskets.

The owners manual says to replace the fuel filter every 7500 miles, and that's before we all put in high volume fuel pumps that circulate lots more fuel all the time. I've been preaching "do the fuel filter every other oil change" for years.
