First of all, I am a contractor for the Army. Full time salary. Also retired military. I deploy with my company to Afghanistan on a 90 day rotation. 90 days at home leave with out pay. I hit my head on a low lying beam in our aircraft. Did this twice. This happened a few months ago. I keep getting dull headaches all the time. To day I had a pretty bad headache. Don't wanna get side tracked but my boss thinks I am faking it to get out of work. If I got to the contractor clinic on base it will be an automatic $300 for the doctor to look at you. Pretty sure he will give me some Motrin an send me on my way. I can not use my tricare out here and the deductible is $300 for the standard company plan for deployed personnel. Have never really sought out medical care out side the military. I have only been able to work about 3 months for the entire 2013 calendar year. My question is, should the company pay the deductible for this visit or to i expense it or is there a third option? Since this was an injury at work, should there be ..........something. Or do I get stuck with a $300 bottle of aspirin and keep working everyday? Sorry, just had to put if out there.

I would notify your employer of the injury and seek care through their workmans comp Insurance carrier.

Might be difficult to prove if no injury report was made...

This, plus the fact that in most cases you've waited to long. Pay for the doctor first and if it turns out that you can prove the injury did in fact happen at work, talk to a lawyer. The time you waited though may be the biggest problem since in most cases it has to be reported withing 24-48 hours I believe.

There are 2 problems here. First off you should have reported it when it happened. Your supervisor should have done the same when you talked to him about it.

If it happened at work, in this case on a plane, its a workplace injury. Go tell your supervisor and tell them you want to go see a doctor. I would not be suprprised if they have a doctor they use or a clinic they send employees to. Dont feel bad about it, people get hurt.

Its your responsibility to inform them of it, its their responsibility to provide the necessary care.

File a workers comp claim the fact that you notified your supr and he should have offered to fill out a form may buy you extended time. let workers comp decide.

Workers comp claims can be filed for up to 3 years. Tell your supervisor you need to file a claim. If they ask you why you did not file the claim then, simply tell them that I figured it was not worth reporting at the time but you now have ongoing problems since the incident. If they refuse to write up the paperwork contact an attorney immediately !! You should not bear any costs for work related injuries. Good luck...been there myself

armed federal contractor here, and I am afraid , they are right any incident has to be reported within 24 hours, at least that's how it is for me,
did you tell anyone that you bumped your head?

You will need to check with your states Workers Compensation laws...every state is different, now that I am looking at it.

You stated that you hit your head on a low lying beam in an aircraft...do they not require hardhats?? If not this could actually help your case.

. I would get a lawyer involved. I would go to the doctor anyway just to make sure there is no problems. Do not go to the contractor clinic. They are not out for you. workers comp will screw you around. I cut my arm at work and didnt think anything of it.The next day I told the boss what had happened because my are started swelling up so I went to the urgent care clinic (THE WITCH DOCTOR). They cave me some Tylenol 3 and sent me home told me to use ice pack every 15 mins and come back in a week. That night I woke up and my arm was three times it size so I went to ER. Long story short I had a staff infection. The doctor if I would have waited a week I would have lost my arm. f$%k the clinic. Get the test done on the melon just to make sure. Better safe than sorry. Good luck Ryan

Talk to a lawyer that does Workers' Comp law. Every state is different and many have different Statutes of Limitation.
Make sure you tell the lawyer that you work for the Fed gov't- that may have a bearing of how he will proceed.
Stop wasting time posting here and find some expert help before it's too late to file.

The problem I see , is it was a few months ago, I hope you do get help
Safety first, your more important than $300 bucks, did you mention it to any supervisor? Or manager. If u did then your good , because they failed to act.
Even if you mentioned it in passing.
That would help you a bunch. Either way, like some have said, get checked out. Better safe than sorry

First of all....Thanks for all the input.
I filled out the workers comp form LS202 Dept of Labor. My boss signed it and went to the clinic. They looked at me and did not pay anything out of pocket. The reason I did not report it was...... when I hit my head, I did not black out and was not bleeding. I started to feel symptoms slowly over the next few weeks. The "Doc" Nurse Practitioner said it was possibly a post concussive syndrome but thought it was dehydration. Have a follow up tomorrow. Hope they don't put down dehydration an send me a bill. Not the end of the world for $300. But who wants to throw away $300. I got Tylenol, melatonin and the same advice every doc tells you. "Drink plenty of fluids and get some rest."

That's how they treat a concusion.

The reason for reporting any injury, even as small as a papercut is so that when symptoms related show up at a later date you have firm footing with your employer. Back and neck injuries especially show up weeks to months later.
