I think mostly everyone who has negative things to say about 2Pac does not understand poverty. Never grew up in a neighborhood where people getting shot and dying is an everyday occurrence.

He used what he knew best to make a living far greater than most college grads do. More than we can say about most of the folks who get comfortable in poverty so long as they get their hand outs. If you listen to his music he wanted those at the bottom to rise to the top as he did.

He also starred in a few movies and wrote poetry. Who here is this talented? Prove it and I will forever hold my peace.

Your perspective means jack chit unless you understand 2pacs perspective on society.

Rest in peace Tupac.

How does 6 dead in 2 minutes with the shooter standing in front of your house with the shells dropping into you property sound, is that "hood" enough for you??
If not what about a heroin stash house directly across the street????
Raised in ENY. This hood stuff is about mentality, embracing i never embraced the hood rat mentality.
Anyway back to the music i just never liked Tupac's flow, rhythm and his west coast beats really didn't help. 90% of what i listen to rap for is the beats the lyrics i rarely listen to or care for. if it has a good beat good bass and the flow is good i am in, wtf they are saying i don't give a rats as s.
The message in the song i never cared for especially since most of what they are saying is BS anyway.

I'd have to go with Death Row and the west coast over the east coast stuff:eek:

When Dre and Pac where making tunes together it was just unreal:biggrin: Add Snoop, and a little Cube:cool:

CALIFORNIA LOVE:cool:

I've listened to black artists music since I was a kid. My father used to love Mahalia Jackson's Christmas album and play it every Christmas season. He had many records from black artist of the 40s and 50s. I've listened to blues artists from Big Mama Thorton to BB King. Hendrix, Sly and Family Stone, The Jacksons, James Brown, Bob Marley and the list goes on and on. I started to dislike the disco stuff when the instruments left. Next was just a synthesizer and spitting in the microphone. Never liked scratching and then the stupid lyrics became the worst aspect. Been turned off since the early 90s. The idea of money is everything no matter how you get it just to flaunt it turns me off. Glorifying violence, killing cops or whites, treating women like toilets, no honor just plain old scum. IMHO the whole culture reinforces racisim b/c the sterotypical racist depictions of blacks are just hammed into your face by their own lyrics and videos. Brett calls them animals and when you drop to that base level then that's about the only way to describe them. I'm sorry but I don't give a crap about any rap.

I find this funny as heck they way everyone is going back forth, rap is this and metal is that...

I was an equal opportunity listener, I tried it all:biggrin: Like most of it:cool:

I love the MUSIC. Most of the time I like the beats better than the words.

Being an audiophile nothing beats the box like a good 90's rap song:biggrin:

I bet most of you would think me being from NC would love country. County is my least favorite genre out of the main stream music scene. Don't get me wrong some of it is great, but like with any form of music some of it sucks;)

Folks used to look at me crazy at the car shows. I'd roll in with Tupac shaking the house, then switch over to Dr. Feelgood to show how loud it was, and finally slip in a little jazz to show how complete the system covered the scale... I shocked many that way....

I'm with you Shane, I love all music as well. After all, variety is the spice of life. I just like it to hit hard with crispy highs.

The 5 min of fame thing is spot on too.

My point is this.

The so called "ganster life" is BS! Try raising 40 acres of corn and see what you get. You guys are young still and are just beging to figure out what lie's about. Those "other" guys didn't have a clue.

So called "rap" is missing one letter! It's the C in front of it!:biggrin:
Ganster life isnt B/S , you have to come and see how people live in the hood , gangland the TV show has put it out there for the world to see , it's do or die ..

Let's be open minded people.... For once, try to get out of you comfort zone and step into the life of the less fortunate. Poverty, growing up in the hood vice a silver spoon being put into your mouth since day one for some. Others, well...you learn as you go. With a little luck, you may become someone in todays society. Country Music,Rap, Folk music, Latino what ever. It just like art work, folks are just expressing feelings, emotions and in a general sense of up coming to eduacate those of a more fortunate up coming. When last did you hear of a rich rap group bragging about how good they had it growing up?

While some of the less fortunate have found wealth, it's not always the answer to happiness and ultimate success in the end. Most of the time it will still end in death or these individuals ending up in prison sad to say.

I can honestly say, I can even feel a sense of racism lingering in this thread to a certain extent. I just ask kindly that you not post, and refrain from commenting on things unless you have lived the life of some of these individuals. Only then, you will understand the sense of belonging to Something for the soul purpose of survival because your family has failed you as a child due to drugs, alcoholism, and a government and society In general pthat could care less. Just ltake a good look at todays society,
AMEN !!!! To everything you wrote ..

not buying that. there are plenty of people who have come out of the ghetto to become great artists and they dont talk about murdering each other or fuking some bitch as he would say.

Wyclef said he had to graduate to the projects from grass huts in Haiti. I can assure u was poorer then tupoc. u dont hear him singing about the garbage this idiot use to sing.

he's rich and talks about how rough it was growing up but you dont hear him disrespecting women and plotting his rivals murder in his lyrics.

dont confuse racism with reality. many people grew up in the projects who were just as poor as him if not poorer and they turned out fine respecting the law, the opposite sex and each other. more then I can say for this animal.
Wyclef has alot of gangsta songs and Ice cube was a so call Gangster rapper , who talk about killing but never hurt a soul for some it's business ,like Vannilla Ice (who is white )talked about being for the hood and made million, but he never step foot in a so hood ....

GNBRETT to AN extent I agree with you whole heartly. But we must keep in mind not everyone in the hood is a criminal. It's not a choice for some, but a matter of survival because there is no one giving them support or direction to turn too for guidance. No family support, no nothing. I am also a firm believer that a person can be helped so much, end result, it's up to the individual to make the right decision.
Right again , there are kids of doctor , Minsters etc who have became killers .
oh I wont disagree that if I was born in raised in a housing project with criminals for parents that I too may have not turned out successful. maybe, maybe not. unlikely I will agree but u still have some decency as a human being and respect for human life. rich or poor he had neither.

most people from the ghetto have jobs, pay their taxes and contribute to society. its the 10% that give the rest a black eye. Tupoc was that 10% who happened to rap well. nothing more, nothing less.
Most of these HOODS are like 3rd world country only the strong survive , so you think they care about human life nope life for them is day by day .
i might have missed something BUT
some of your guys posts are funny as hell
gangster rap is a gimmick a sales angle just look at these punks before or after a concert they have more cops on duty then most city mayors.
Yeahh some try/do stupid things but most are just actors.
as far as Tupacs music i like one maybe two songs if that, Big was OK but his BS Puff remake tracks hurt him big time.
BTW 98% of the **** i listen to is hard core rap since about the age of ten.
the funny ship is that i have little ones and I NEVER play it when they are around and they are always around, which leaves me with, when i am alone in the car which is also very rare.

The hood is another story all together.
remember
Rapers = actors/sales men nothing else
and they have sold you big time.
My most hated raper is that women killing punk i forget his name he either kills or tortures a women in a bunch of songs, he is really famous OHH what ever.
Good point
When the message is lost in the translation is when there is a problem hence the demeanor of a big percentage of today's youth black and white alike.

A black man has a hard enough time advancing in life at any level so these rap artist aren't doing them any favors portraying certain behaviors. The only thing they care about is their own pockets at any expense.

They are taking advantage of under educated and ignorant people.

That music has single handedly effected the manors and respect that millions of people have and it's ruining the country. I personally do not stand for it at any level.

Manors and respect are demanded!

D
Amen , but I most put this out there , the people that buy this music and are at concerts are young white kids , who love this music , listen to it before and after class ....

there is no doubt Tupoc was a talented singer. but he was more a criminal then anything else imo. I also find it funny that the only two rappers I ever listened to both killed each other. the thug life yo.... well, now they are both pushing up daises!

Wow a man that knows his stuff , he wasn't a bad guy ,no different then any of the Rock band bad boys that get in trouble ....
The problem with the two rappers is that both was on top of there game , and people wanted what they have and hated to see them raise to the top and talk about the truth about what happens in the ghetto ... Honestly I think there death was done by the illuminati
please listen to this it will open your eyes

Glad to here it Romone. The BS that's been going on is rediculase (sp) to say the least. I grew up in an era that had more going on than you can imagine. Ever here of Frank Castello? He was a hero of mine and it wasn't a comic relief team.

One of my class mate decided to bring an M-10 into school and when he closed his locker it went off. This was late 70's. The lockers were destroyed to say the least and most of us were freeking out.

On another "venture" we had an op to buy a 50 cal vulcan. Needless to say the two officers that happen to chase us didn't go that far after we cut the tops of their cars off.

Not bragging at all and if I coud I would change some of the out comes that happened.

If I was your age again I would find a lady that could put up with me as well as a good job and live life to the fullest.

my family did tier best to raise me in a good neighborhood, but ive been and lived in some of the Darkest places in this country, when I was staying in Detroit, our has was shot up in a Drive by on the 4th of july, i was almost beat by some dudes at a swimming pool, I was never allowed to walk by myself, Ive watched people i know kill themselves because they couldnt stand thier situation and breakdowns, ive Met several Pimps and thier clientel who are worse than the pimps, I had a another friend bring a 9mm glock and a shotgun to school, and his GF told on him and they put the school on lockdown till they found it in is truck...

I can say im 19 years old and ive seen and experienced s*it no person my age should have had to see or gone through...

And whats funny is that listening to this music all along, seemed to make life a bit easier... now youve seen some crazy things before, and all of you have seen more than me and Zack have probably seen... Im saying be in these people shoes who write these lyrics (Who are actually artists, and not some fake BS) and its crazy...

Detroit and LA are some crazy cities:eek:

cmon youve got to admit, alot of this metal music these days is about vampires, slitting wrists, self masachism, and a bunch of other suicidal BS. I will say.. I LIKE Johnny Cash...

I will say, alot of us are doing just fine with or without the music..

wow...since this was my post i have to say that I`m a big Tupac fan....even when i bought my first Vette the first cd i put in it was Pac and the song was Picture me rolling...lol Tupac was very talented...alot of rappers talk about what they went through in life and Pac was one....Gangster rap came from ol skool guys like Ice T and NWA....these guys did dirt and rapped about it....most of the rappers today are Studio Gangsters...meaning they are gansters in the studio recording the song...never did anything, just rap about it...man do i miss ol`skool rap

Trying to justify that one generations of music is better than the next generations is laughable in most cases, especially concerning Rock & Roll, Heavy Metal, and Rap/Hip-Hop. I grew up listening to '60s and '70s rock because that's what my Father listened to...Mom listened Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond (okay...Neil Diamond isn't that bad). Most of the bands from the '60s and '70s wound up strung out and broke only to do reunion tours years later. When the '80s rolled around I got into the heavy metal craze (after all these years I still have my jeans jacket with the big back patch, pins and patches). And those guys were not the epitome of a "role model" by any stretch of the imagination. Just about every band from the '80s from Motley Crue to Megadeth had serious issues with drugs and run ins with law enforcement.

I never listened to music for a message, they're all just stories shared through music. Hell, I love the music from the Mama's and the Papas and even though John Phillips was having incest/sex with his daughter McKenzie Phillips (from the TV show One Day at a Time) I still listen to their music but that doesn't mean I condone what he/they did. Even the Beach Boys had drama...

animals in the end killing each other cause it was hip.

sorry to inform you Brett, but Biggie wasnt kill by any gang or thug

oh wait he was

LAPD

Ties to the murder of Notorious B.I.G.
The April 16, 2007, wrongful death lawsuit for the murder of rapper Notorious B.I.G. names Rampart officers Durden, Pérez and Mack as perpetrators of the crime.[2] The lawsuit states that Pérez admitted to the LAPD that he and Mack "conspired to murder, and participated in the murder of Christopher Wallace." Both Pérez and Durden were on duty the night of the murder outside the Petersen Automotive Museum on Wilshire Boulevard on March 9, 1997.
The wrongful death lawsuit is corroborated by testimony from investigating LAPD detectives Brian Tyndall and Russell Poole, who believe Mack and other Rampart police were involved in the conspiracy to kill Wallace.[14] Poole claims that LAPD Chief Bernard Parks refused to investigate their claims of Mack's involvement, suppressing their 40 page report, and instructing investigators not to pursue their inquiry. Detective Poole, an 18 year veteran of the force, quit the LAPD in protest and filed a lawsuit against the LAPD for violating his First Amendment rights in preventing him from going to the public with his information

I not a cop hater, but cant make statements like that with out implicating those involved

Right... also this may or may not be true.. But he people who witnessed the shooting believed that the suspects were in a black Chevy Impala SS, or what could have been a blacked out Caprice used by LAPD detectives at the time...
