Well this little goodie gets clamped to the turbo so I'm posting it in here:

I installed one of the Full Throttle 4" MAF pipes today and just wanted to post that it is working quite well. Drivability is great, Bailey definitely got it dialed in nicely.

Related components: Extender extreme chip, Translator+ with v6.25 upgrade chip, 4" inlet H cover on the turbo. 75lb injectors.

Picked up a pound or so of boost over the 3.5" setup I was running. And the sound is ofcourse extremely wicked.

It's dark in the garage already and I know you guys like pics, so I'll post some more tomorrow!

Is that an "open" ended filter you have there?
It looks like one of those venturi style filters.
What size, and where did you get it?

Thank you, Brian

Hi Brian,

I have the same set-up on my Regal.
Mine is a 4" inlet x 9" K&N filter straight from Full Throttle.
Not an open-ended type at all.
Looks just like the one in the picture there.

I have the same set-up but it's not working well with my TT pump gas chip at all.
I've been fighting a serious RPM-drop when I come to a stop as well as a BLM drop at cruise speed.

WOT and under-boost performance is outstanding, though.
Gained 1.5 lbs. of boost.

It's just a stanard 4" opening K&N.

Thank you for the reply. I have a "venturi" type filter with a cone in the end.. I wonder if this is causing my issue. I thought it would straighten out the air and go right through the MAF as nicely as possible. I am going to toss on another filter to see.
My car does hunt around a bit also.
BLM`s are a bit weird at times as well, but only at idle.

Once off idle, the car runs superb. Could not be happier.
Just seems like the idle needs a "touch" of fine tuning.
I am using an Extender Extreme chip. I think the extender maf range is the BOMB!

Hi Brian,

Eric sent me another chip that radically improved my idle, BLM's especially.
But the BLM drop at cruise is driving me nutso.

Mine runs like mad under hard throttle NO doubt about that.

Like that Extender Chip, huh? Hmmm......
I might give that a shot.
Seems like it'd allow me to utilize that new-fangled mass air AND the 4" tubing's flow capabilities to their fullest extent.
I'm limited to the stock 255 with my present chip.

PM or e-mail me with your thoughts on the Extender Extreme.
I'm all ears.

Ummm, yup!!

Any specifics you'd like to know about them?

Hi Brian,

But the BLM drop at cruise is driving me nutso.

This is probably due to the fan turning on and off. At idle it can cause the BLM's to shift, it does on my car. I don't see much shift while driving though.

All the late model MAFs exhibit this. The larger the MAF, the more pronounced the effect.

i dont know if there r too many nice idling 3.8's or 3800 series engines! i have yet to sit in one... on the other hand my car did idle very nicely yesterday at a stop light for about 20 seconds and then it was time to go! i thoroughly enjoyed it;)

Try decel fuel cutoff delay? (this is availabe on extender chips)
It helps - stays rich longer when you let off the pedal. May or may not help for the issue you have described there though.

Eric of TT told me that if you have a dual fan setup the blm "changing numbers" can be way worst than the stock single fan.

Thanks for all the input!!

Truth is, my actual idle-warm-in-park is great with the updated chip.
BLM's as well as every other reading are spot-on.

The only two other issues I'm experiencing are:
BLM drop at steady cruise MPH, say 60, 70, etc..
RPM drop when I come to a stop...ALMOST stalls but then recovers.

I know I'm not dealing with a Lexus here but those two issues are serving me fits.

Again, thanks for all the input folks.
Bill

per your PM.

If the BLM is instantly dropping to 115, and then creeping back up to normal, then its probably not the fan.

Bad News...

Well I guess I spoke too soon guys... went for a longer drive tonight and started having problems.

It doesn't like to coast at all. BLM's aren't working out.
:( :(

Sorry to get a bit off subject but did you use a 4" inlet pipe before with your 3.5" MAF?

I'm looking for an adapter for a 3.5" MAF to a 4" inlet pipe.

Is there such a creature?
