I have called six different companys about trying to insure my 1987

LIMITED with a roll cage, but all the companies say no way. It seems if

you live in MICHIGAN it makes a difference?? Anyone know of a insurer that

will insure:confused:

you're going to have trouble with most insurance co. that want to see the car or pictures because of the cage.

Allstate

I use Allstate. I talked to my agent and he said a roll cage was not a problem and would not affect my coverage. I am having one installed next week. I live in SC so maybe it is different here. Good luck.

Well, I live in MI and had a 73 Z-28 with a full cage and a 79 Z-28 with a 4 point bar both insured with Auto Owners. They were one of the only providers that would let me have my cars appraised and then insure to value of the appraisal. My local agent is Detlor in Belleville. They have been great for many years and I highly recommend them.

State farm told me It does not matter what is done to car. The insurance he was talking about was stated value. You give them a stated value and the they will evaluate it .The need pics of car and it takes two weeks for results.

I don't think my agent has ever seen one of my cars or company trucks...

Thanks for the info. I will do some more research with the above mentioned companys. I just do not want to take a chance of having to make a claim and it get denied due to roll cage. Alot of work went into this car.

I'm an insurance adjuster. I've never heard of a claim being denied because of a roll cage. You should be able to modify it any way you want, but unless you have a separate endorsement to the policy, you're likely bound by a limit on custom parts and equipment. Now obviously cars that have cages are raced, you can forget about any coverage if you have a collision accident at the track. There's no general auto policy that covers racing.

I called Rally insurance. Told them about the car having a cage and performance modifications and they asked me value of vehicle. I got a quote of $411 a year for 25,000 estimated value $250 deductible. I am thinking this is where I am going. Just need to fill out a form and send in some pictures.
THANKS FOR THE INFO EVERYONE.

Any restrictions? (Can’t take it out in the rain, only can take it to car shows, etc)

If it is unrestricted, that is a good price.

Only Restriction Is 3,000 Miles A Year, You Could Set Mileage At Whatever You Choose And I Am Sure It Is Not Covered At The Race Track. I Did Not Even Bother Asking.

Keep in mind that in the event of an accident there is a BIG difference between stated value and agreed value. You want the agreed value. You should check on that.

Stated value is basically you "stating" to them your car is worth XXXX. if something happens they can argue their way down from there but not up. If you have an AGREED value of, say, $25K, if it gets totalled you will get a check for $25K without debate as long as you aren't clearly violating the terms of the insurance. I did lots of research on this when I first got my car, as I was only 20 and NO ONE wanted anything to do with it, even with a spotless record. Now that I hit 25 i'm going with grundy. Had hagerty for a while and they tried to bend me over on premiums so I went with regular insurance till now.

i have State Farm.. i had out of state tags on it when i moved here so i had to take the car to the DMV for a VIN check.. i was fliping out thinking that they would say SORRY, go to CHP to have your car checked.. BUT it went smooth, without a problem (i stated it was a HOT ROD due to it's age :))

Next was a trip to my local agent to get coverage.. i couldn't get him out of the car LOL.. he loved it and took pics for the underwriter.. the car is covered for a stated value and has low miles limits (but they never check miles)..

you should not have any problems.. good luck..

Rally Ins.

I agree with Tom J. I have Rally Ins. and it's for agreed value. And you can even buy it back if it's totaled. I pay aprx. $250.00 a yr. but it is not a daily
driver.
