On my hard top Gn(sold) I had an eastern performance FMIC. The sound these cars make when you let off the gas after being in boost got many diffrent responses. I had people ask if i just broke something,laugh at me and point saying "if you weren't going so fast you would not have broke it." and oh the people who try to initate the sound and ask what was that? My all time favorite has to be crusing the area on day ,open dump, and charged up behind a woman in an suv. When I let off at 20psi she heard that noise and pulled over at looked at me as if I was crazy as I drove past! What have you guys experienced?
 
ha, she probably thought you were blipping some sort of siren at her, that's funny.
 
The drive to the local track has a baseball field directly next to the road, and every Friday night the stands would be packed with people.

Both of my cars had FMIC's (V2 on one and a PTE on the other). I would always make boost right as I went past and watch EVERY head in the stand turn.

The look on her face was priceless ,and your right she was giving that what was that look of confusion!LOL Kenny did you sell both cars,or do you still have one?
 
Sorry if this sounds dumb, but how does a FM affect the sound the turbo makes?

curious because i am in th eprocess of installing a front mount

i've got the pte slic and its pretty loud with the stock turbo. i think it might be more a function of having a less restrictive intercooler than its locations. just my guess.
 
87GRANDNAT No it doesn't sound stupid. But we were talking about the sound that you hear when you release the throttle,after being in boost i.e 15psi a wot then you take your foot off the gas..... then the sound from under the hood.
 
CROWNVIC96 You might be right I was wondering if it was the length of tubing. What type of comments/questions do you guys get when people hear the sound for the first time??
 
but why would a front mount make any difference over a stock location as far as the sound goes?
 
I wonder the same thing. But have you heard a TR with a FMIC come out of a burnout? Sounds diffrent than a car with a stock IC.When will you install be done on your FMIC? You will see exactly what I mean.
 
You might scare off some would be victims when they see that FMIC in your grill!:D :cool:

Sold both of them. I'm in school full time now (finally quit screwing off and decided it was time to get a real job), so I don't have the time/money it takes to keep one in the condition I like.

I'll buy another in a couple years when I'm done with school. :)

There is a lot more volume to release back through the compressor wheel. Especially with 3" piping.
 
I know what you mean I work full time and do college 4 nights a week! Yep the front mount is a lot bigger you probaly just answered the question. How fast were your cars,e.t. wise

First one ran 11.80's-12.00's all night on pump gas and drag radials. It was stolen.

Replaced it with a faster one... 11.20's @ 22psi with baby launches. :cool:
 
That 11.20 is what I need!What was your combo if you don't mind sharing?

Nothing crazy, Comp 218, stock bottom end, mildly cleaned up heads, TA61, THDP, PTE FMIC, 57# injectors, XP pump, 9" Pro Torque non lock converter (had a 10.5" PTC non lock but ended up breaking it), Red's chips, Janis built tranny, stock suspension with an air bag.

Car used to belong to Dustry Bradford... it went 10.90's in TSS trim. About the only things I changed were the downpipe, converter and intercooler. It picked up 1-2 MPH with the IC change at the same boost level.

Probably had some 10.70's in it with more boost... never felt like trying to blow the crank out of it though. :o
