IPhone 3 questions

Im wanting to replace a ATT Nonsmart phone.

If its possible I would like to use the sim card I have with only voice and texting and put it in a used IPhone3. There are quite a few used ones for sale, and the added features(WiFi internet, apps) sound appealing.
Question is will a sim without data package operate in the IPhone? Does it need to be unlocked? Will ATT care?

I usually use verizon, so not sure about the other carriers

no u dont need to unlock it......but att&t will find out of you upgrade and going to charge u for a iphone pakage.u maight wnt to call them first..or u can upgrade n get a new iphone 3s for $200.and upgrade to a good iphone pakage.

I always hear people say they don't need an iPhone and they only use the phone to call people. Then they get an iPhone and they say they don't know how they lived without it. That goes for about any smart phone. Once you get one you realize what you have been missing. They have become pocket computers that happen to make phone calls.

Ive got an android that I use alot. This would be for the daughter in college. I was thinking wifi is easy to find so the data plan wouldnt be necessary

at&t will hit you up for data extra $30 a month, or so they say. I was told that the I phone uses a larger ban with and they can tell you are using one. I have unlocked a Iphone 3&4. one for use with a network that dose not use the Iphone. It has been used to make calls and text no data except wifi. works good

Dont get a 3, they are slow as balls. I have a 3GS and like it alot. My wife has a 4S and my brother a 4 and they are much faster than mine.

iPhone 3G work great for T-mobile and would work great for just voice and text since AT&T text is over their voice service. Now the 3G is slow as balls. I highly recommend that you find an iPhone 4 and get the gevey som to unlock it. Then you can get the monthly prepaid service from walmart. I have been told it works awesome with unlocked AT&T iPhones. It you want to know more about jsilbreaking your iphone and things, let me know!
