I have a new stator shaft here..I cant remember if it came out of a local rebuild or one that I ordered..
The splined area looks like it has been cooked..
Can this thing be checked for hardness? Any one have any numbers? Wonder if I can have it checked at work, they have a rockwell thingy in the shop..

Thanks

take a file to it----compare it to a silver one (not hardened)------it will be extremely obvious cause the file will glide over it and it will take a bite into the non hardened piece............RC

Yeah its pretty obvious... the hardened ones have the rainbow look to them

Well, i t is blue-ish in the splined area...I took a small triangular file to it at work today..I did cut into it pretty easy..I know what ya mean about gliding across , we heat small tools sometimes , cherry them up then dip them in oil..So we make sure we have it fine tuned because later it is harder to file.
Didnt get that with the triangular file, unless its because i used a sharp edge..hmmmm..
I have no problem buying one, its just that this one was sitting here in good shape..
Either its soft , or using the corner edge of the file was not a fair test..
Thanks guys
