Anyone know? Any downsides to this?

SignUp Now!I was just wondering since ive never seen anyone with all the bells and whistles, but with a stock turbo. Would it spool soo fast, that you would need a taller tire, or gear?
Which is why I went to a higher gear--3.08. Unfortunately I hurt the headgaskets on the first pass at Byron a few weeeks ago to test my theory, but I felt that before the change my car was spooling so fast with the 6776BB that it was going thru 1st and 2nd gear way too fast causing 3rd to really spin high before getting thru the end of the track, even with a 28" tall tire. Im not a big fan of spinning a two bolt main motor over 6k so thats why I did the gear change. The motor is almost back together again and if I still have time I will get to the track and make a few more passes and see if I was right. However from street driving the car I did notice that there was no noticeable difference from the 3.42 gear when launching but the Xpressway driving was much easier and that should mean much better mileage. The car really pulled hard from 60 up.
I'm interested to see how the gear change works out for you. I have thought about it for a while now. Keep us posted.
TIA
JC

Downside
You will want a rev limiter setup in your chip, I spun 1st so fast it hit the 6k rev limiter before the tranny shifted it once ( still hydroplaning ). That was on my current TA49. That could of had rods and crank pieces going down side my GN.![]()
Trans didn't shift because it was hydroplaning and I suspect it happened so fast that maybe there was a load issue it needed to meet etc, not a tranny/chip guy.
I see what you mean with the alky ( in theory ) but I don't see how the cylinder is going to fire that fine alky mist that already evaporated and cooled down in the inlet air? And even if it could fire it, you either have a blown headgasket or an oil pan full of broken parts due to a 6500 + rpm missed shift, I still would take the head gasket.
