I have a SMC progressive system that is approx. 7 years old. I have had no issues YET. I haven't been to the track in over 4 years and would like to start. Do you think a brand new Alky system is necessary? I also thought about changing out the fuel pump as well. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Your system being its that old owes you nothing.

Now.. I wouldnt race a Buick with an old alcohol kit or an old fuel pump. Two areas that I never mess with. There is nothing better than new.. especially on fuel system components... The fuel pump is easy on a Buick.. 100 bucks.. no brainer.. and do the filter. Next season your not thinking in the back of your head IF the pump will have issues.

You want to play.. there is always a cost. New stuff like this heads off issues that can far outweigh their costs or consequences. Let alone the down time that ensues and your going to then after the fact handle the issue. Time is the only resource you cant ever get back. The little time you have free can be spent racing or fixing.

I keep my fuel pump and alky pump no longer than two years. They are replaced with new units. I spray a huge amount of alcohol. It's not worth a failure that would cost me thousands.

x2...I run both pumps of mine for three years, but I'll probably go to two years, along with twin nozzle, when I start running 10's.
