I've had the car down since November and I let the alcohol tank sit in the trunk for about 6 months filled with 100% denatured...2 months ago I took the tank out and decided to drain all the alcohol out...now it's been sitting dry for about 2 months...is it gonna be ok when I go to re-install everything? The kit was bought brand new last summer...

Run heavy doses of lube through it. And watch the pressure guage.

Wish you luck. Most EFI style pumps dont fair well when left sitting out in the open without fluids.

I would keep an eye on the system till you regain your confidence with it.

D, I shut my car off in November two years ago and the tank was dry. Filled the tank and fired it up in April and the pump was frozen.

After talking with Steve he had me connect the pump directly to the battery and alternate the leads. Pump went left....right....left....right and then fired up just fine.

Been running great ever since.

If yours is frozen too I suggest that method.

ok........so should i have left the alcohol in the tank then???

Yes it helps to leave it wet.

Spray or pour some lube in there and then run it, both directions if necessary for a short time as mentioned.

May just work fine. :)

Yeah D, that would be the part of the instructions that says "Never store pump dry" :-)

Aren't I helpful???

Yaaaa.. install a revesible switch in the cockpit and at 25 PSI boost go and toggle it to get the pump working.

Man if the pump seized, its hurt. Its flow and pressure will not be the same as it was. Its bad enough its a small pump with limited capacity, that now the impellers were stuck....

If "I" were to have to store, I would pull all the alcohol out, run a thin oil like mystery oil, ATF, or?? and have the pump sitting in that.

If your pump got stuck, get with Steve and get a new one. If it fails at high boost and you hurt your motor.. you'll be thinking of me ;)

If you can't tell whether the pump is working or not you probably deserve to be changing headgaskets.

Then again I would certainly be thinking of the alky. King if I ever had to change my headgaskets. ;)

Don do you have the pressure gauge on your SMC kit? If so fire it with the test button (assuming it ever runs.....) and check the pressure.

Mine came back to life with full pressure and has run fine for the last 1.5 years.

that's a very good suggestion Bill...I will try this once I get the new controller from Steve...

actually guys the tank was sitting dry for maybe 2 months...not 8 months like the car has been sitting! I just poured a full bottle of denatured back in the tank today...hopefully the pump will be ok...if not oh well I will just get another one to be safe...
