Is there a Difference between a Oldsmobile 2004r and a BRF 2004R

im converting my manual trans to automatic i have a olds 2004r sitting in my garage is it worth rebuilding or should I go with a BRF trans

What car are you putting it in? What size gears in the rear? What code is the Oldsmobile transmission?
 
The valve body and governor are different on the BRF transmissions. That Olds 200r4 may be a BRF, you need to find the tag for the valve body (if it still has it). I think a CZ valve body was more common, those came on Monte Carlos. The OZ valve bodies came on the Hurst/Olds. BRF is way more common than an OZ.

It'll probably be best to use a BRF with the proper governor setting.
 
if you go check out that brf, check out the servo for the casting ending in 694 and if you can pull the pan and look at the vb for the pink paint. While you are in there pull the governor cover and look at the gear and the weights to see about only a spring on one weight.
