well my insurance company got back tome today and said that my car was only worth $5000?? do any of you guys know if theres a way to argue witht eh company to get a better pay out for the car?? cause im pretty sure my car was worth more than $5K before it was destroyed?? that much wont even leave me enough to buy back the salvage after paying off the loan on it.

I'm sure you'll be getting detailed info on this real soon.

What the company is doing is standard practice for them. The adjuster is evaluated by his company on his pay-outs. You've just rec'd an offer to give him an idea of what might be acceptable to you.

Sign nothing---discuss nothing---until you're got the documentation you're going to need, & make a claim for its true value.

HTH

well progressive is my insurance company, and they are from the mainland so i think that they have their own adjusters and appraisers cause they all sound like they have southern accents to me. at this point im just gathering info about the car, production numbers etc.

From the Kelly Blue Book Website (well known enough and established company)

1987 Buick Regal Limited Coupe 2D

Engine: V6 3.8 Liter Turbo
Trans: Automatic
Drive: Rear Wheel Drive
Mileage: 96,000

Equipment
Grand National Pkg
Air Conditioning
Power Steering
Power Windows
Power Door Locks
Tilt Wheel
Cruise Control
AM/FM Stereo
Premium Wheels

Retail Value $10,285

You could even check Kirbans website out. They used to document the selling prices of their cars on the net. You could use that as evidence of the cars value also. GNs go for more than that on E-Bay everyday. These adjusters have no idea what these cars are. You need to let them know.

They gave me $6k for my T and let me keep the salvage and that car was a POS. I wasn't about to argue for more. :D

BTW the adjuster that came to my house had a blue book or black book. Anyway it looked like standard issue for the trade. The engine codes and values were messed up. My T-type was listed as having an NA V6 not a turbo because the engine code was listed as "A" I think. But it said of course 7 so at that point his book was worthless and he had to make up a value.

yeah i think that they are treating my car like a regular regal, maybe cause i shaved off all the badges haha. anyways the lady was telling me they dont use blue book values or something cause u cant buy a car from the blue book so she said to bring in ads. so im gonna show her the $12K 84 grand nat ad. and she was telling me that i cant use mainland ads cause were not in the mainland??? thansk alot for all the info ivan, btw seen u again on the road today in the TTA, damn that plate is mean better than 4S FED

Awhile back when my Monte Carlo SS got ripped offed, they tried to give me low bluebook value. $4500, I ended up getting $7000. They have all kinds of ways of reducing their payout, even tire wear was disscussed. I'd say stick to your guns but not literally.:D

A regular 87 regal is probally worth around $1-2K. The best way to protect you envestment is get you car appraised, the will appraised you car for what's its worth and add the total you spent on the car so make shure you keep all your reciepts.

yup ...my insurance gave me hell over value because mines a 85 TType so I had to get it appraised to get any money from them.

I don't think that was mine. You probably saw the the other TTA driving around. He lives in Hawaii Kai and lives up to the rep on his plate. We almost nailed each other one time when he sped into a left turn.

Tyler,

If they dont want to pay you, tell them to fix it...watch how fast the price climbs...I kept hanging-up on the insurance company until they were more reasonable in thier offer. My last totalled car was a mint 2 door '78 Malibu Classic Landau, Corvette wheels, true duals, intake, carb, ditributor, etc., The insurance company said they would give me $800 for it.. in the end, I got $3800 and bought it back for 10% or $380. Hold your ground on the settlement and you will not be dissapointed...

Hope this helps,

Rob
