To be clear about this I didn't want to bore everyone with info that I might have thought was not pertinent but here goes.
This is on my 84 hot air motor that is on my test stand. It had an accel dfi stand alone system on it but never really ran good so I swapped over to a stock 87 computer and harness. This trying to get it to run on my stand with a stock chip and no calpack. The electronic components are all 87 components.
I don't know if this helps or confuses things.

With all that said I am still trying to get the noid test lite to come on.
I don't have the MAP sensor plugged in, do I need that? Thanks guys

dont need map , whats plugged unto the c100 firewall end of harness that attaches to fuse block
you dont need much on that end but do need to supply 12v to the fp/inj wire at C-6 pink/ blk and 12v to D4 and B4

Correct and I have that and also G6 to my fuel pump. What I am wondering is it doesn't even get fuel to the injectors on cranking otherwise it would pop. So what tells the ECM it is cranking (RPM) to fire all the injectors simultaneously on start?
Earlier when it fired it must have been some remains of the eather.

cam sensor signal needed to determine 25 after tdc#1 compression , then it looks at the three windows at crank sensor events to fire correct injector and to advance to the next ign coil , then repeat and resync when the cam sensor triggers tdc again
if it looses the cam sensor after run it will batch fire the injectors

what about ses lamp.. is it steady at key on ,
scanmaster data connected if so whats the readings

I don't have the ses lite connected but I'm sure it would be on. I have a turbo link program that reads off of the ALDL connector but for some reason that isn't working.
So I am still trying to figure out why the noid lite isn't working when I crank. I am going to check and reset the cam sensor cause I'm pretty confident the wiring is all there. So it doesn't get an RPM from somewhere to send to the ECM or is that what the crank sensor does?

look at steve woods no start tree
i posted the link ..here it is again

..first step is confirm the ses lamp is steady with key on
you can connect a bulb between A5 and 12v
get past all in step 1 then post back

Ok I will work on that tomorrow. But what will the ses lamp being on tell me?
I just want to figure out why I don't get the noid lite to work. Thank you

a steady SES lamp is a confirmation that the ecm is actually powered on and ready to work . if its not lit steady the ecm is not powered , if its rapidly blinking the prom check failed and its not going to run ,.
if ses lamp comes on ecm is ready to go and you can check for and retrieve codes if any with a jump of the A +B aldl pins and read codes by observing the lamp as it blinks out 12 12 12 codes then ends with 12 12 12
if you dont have the aldl plug hooked up you can ground the A9 wire at ecm

so step 1 is make sure the ecm is onboard then move down the list
did you verify 12v to one of the injector pins (ecm grounds to make injectors pulse )
this is the next step after ecm works and thats what the noid lamp test tells you

i have to ask did you read the no start tree ?????

if you check out put of cam and crank sensors with a volt meter at he ign module pins you could rule them out but they still need to be getting to the ecm and the ecm respond with command ,

Ok I have a steady service lite on w/ign on. I will follow steps to read codes but still don't understand the output. It says for ex. That code 13 would read 12 12 12 13 13 13 13 12 12 12. Is one blink a 12, two blinks a 13? I just don't follow the logic. Thanks
Yes I did read the no start tree and will follow those steps after I check codes.

12 12 12 is start of code readout , (one blink pause two blinks =12 then repeats twice more then e )
13 one blink then three blinks repeated for a total of three times indicates code 13 is present
then , 12 12 12 indicates end of code readout
13 is no o2 sensor ..motor will start and run without an o2

if there was more than one code stored you would get 12-12-12 followed by the 13-13-13 then lets say iat was disconnected youd get 23 23 23 then if thats all the codes present it will flash 12 12 12 to signify the end

you should see a code 52 for no calpak

if you have communication SES and for codes output you should eb able to connect a scanmaster or turbolink

Ok just tried reading codes and it only gave me 12 12 12 and ended with 12 12 12. One thing was I could hear the IAC motor doing a bunch of stepping. I hooked up turbo link to the ALDL and it would not connect to the ECM, no connection established is what it said. After all the checks I did I know the wiring is complete so my gut feeling is the ECM is bad. I am going to check the connection of the chip I put in and look at the contacts. Depending on that I may try it in my parked GN and see if it works.
Here is a photo of what I am working with.

Well I didn't get too far today my turbo link was not working. Tried it on my 86 that I use it on and it won't connect to that either. So I have to figure out why it's not working. I'm ready to throw in the towel. Thanks
