I have taken my car to 3 different places and have spent well over $1k trying to get it fixed and it is still not fixed and one of them(mechanics) managed to blow my trans, I am borderline going to rip my face off I am so pissed. All I wanted was to get my car running right and it still is down, for 2 ****ing years. Im a college student and dont have the time now to fix and enjoy my car. The only place I would take my car again would be Hye tech or Don Lee, but I am afraid to take it anywhere and I dont exactly have the time or money to fix it now, now that I spent over $1000 TRYING to fix it. ok, just had to get that out. Am I the only one that finds this ridiculous?

whats the problem? unless its internal problems, should'nt be hard to fix, or expensive:confused: I left you a p.m.

Take a deep breath, count to ten, take a pill, have a beer:wink:

Post your problems in as much detail as possible and we can get you through this. I may not be able to help much since my batting average of late sucks but there is a lot of experience and talent here. I’ve got a shop manual and I’m willing to step through the diagnostics with you. In the past I’ve had problems that shops, including dealers, couldn’t solve and I’ve found the problem by stepping through the shop manual diagnostic section.

thanks guys, ive got all the shop manuals, ive got everything Ive looked it over MANY times. LIke I said, every mechanic I took it to didnt fix it, they thought they did but really, they did nothing. It all started when I spliced in the MAF Pro right when it came out. I think I got it for Christmas of 05 I believe. Anyways, I get it in, first I had it connected wrong(kept the spliced wires connected when they were supposed to be separated.), then I fixed it that and it would run really rich or really lean all the time. it would backfire all the time and be SLOW, Every adjustment I made on the pro did nothing, took it too a guy that knows GNs, he couldnt find a problem. So I took it off and the problem then turned into the car would start to putt and stutter after about 15 minutes of driving, this was to the point that it would shut off and the SES light would come on.
I will leave the mechanics unnamed but I took it to mechanic #1, who charged me $450 to fix it, but he didnt really fix it, the problem was still persistant. He agreed to keep it for a few more days. I go to the shop a weeks later because he is dodging my calls and ignoring me to find the car in horrible condition, much worse than I left it. I didnt say anything to him, I asked for my keys, left and never came back.
Mechanic #2 still doesnt fix it. At this point I gave up for a while and bought another car. My friend "borrowed" some parts from me, I got them back and got the car together. car was still ****ed up. THe car sit for my first year in college.
Rewind to 4 months ago, I take it to Sod, he fixes it better than anyone had done previously but still has the same problem. I take it to mechanic #2 because we were chill and he said he would look at it. He proceeds to adjust the TV cable(without telling me) on my Brian Hoffer built trans and blows out the clutches. I now need a rebuild on the trans. I cant do anything because I was busy with school.
Now I am still in school, working and training and busier than ever. So any ideas on this ****ed up situation?

damn jeff did you ever get the mafpro problem fixed, just dont sell the car its to phucken beautiful to sell, if no ones seen it its a beauty, i know how you feel when i popped my headgasket it sat for months since i had the raise up the money to pay for the head work and parts. dont give up she will spool again

No the car is still the same....its drivin me nuts. thanks though, I hope it spools again.

Sorry to hear of all of the problems with the car, Jeff, but with all of the Southwestern Section peeps I am sure that some good will come of this. HTH

School break..

You should have a break here soon. I'm not sure I would rip the harness out just yet. Double check all your connections for the pro. Then I would contact Ricks87GN. He is very knowledgeable about the MaftPRo. You can go through your tune and make sure that is right. Then if it is a harness problem, pull it out and go through it making repairs as needed.

How much experience tuning with a TR do you have? How fast are you planning to go?

Take that Pro out and splice the ECM wiring back the way it was. Get a translator instead. If the problems started with the MAFTPRO, then they end with the MAFTPRO.

Unless you enjoy tuning on a regular basis and can donate 94.3% of your time to the car, I would do without the PRO until you get more time. I've been that route and now understand that I do not know enough about fine tuning to utilize that product.

It's a bada$$ product for sure, but it requires some attention.

Hmmm,

Not sure I agree with that. As with anything, there is a learning curve. However, once the tune is set into the pro, then your done. You do not have to keep changing it. Unless your trying to squeeze out every bit of power.

PS. With all that said, removing the pro and going to a standard set-up may be an option at some point.

Checking the integrity of the circuits would not be that hard to do. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a new harness unless I was sure it needed it. Besides, just repair the circuit(s) that giving the problem, if that's the case.

If I were you, I would remove the last component you installed before you had these problems and put it back the way it was. If the car does not run the way it used to before that last component change, then you know the problem is more that just the new component. You may have done some damage with the wires you mistakingly spliced together. If that's the case, have that problem traced down first and get the engine running good again with the old setup. Then if you need to change out the MAF sensor, just be more careful about the install. You might want to send the new component back to the manufacturer to have them check it out to make sure you didn't do any damage to it when you messed up the wiring. Good luck.

thanks for the help guys, I took the Pro out about a year ago and the problem is still there. I guess when I have enough money again I will make my last go at fixing it until I just send it into the sea.

Im in OC, the car is in the SFV. Blackbandit I clearded my PMs.

I agree with turboelky. Could be a possible ecm problem. Its an easy thing to check.

You got me laughing over here for a little bit with the ripping your face off part. lol laughing as I type that as well.
