First, let me say it's 4:30am, so my brain isn't quite working right.
A friend and I (thanks WhoNds8) just got done installing one of PTS's shift kits, pressure regulator valves, and deep aluminum pans...as well as a new TCC solenoid.
The thing that stands out the most....this pan is beautiful!! (Even has my name etched in it...aaawwwwww) TCC solenoid was straightforward. Shift kit was quite easy. But the pressure regulator valve, man did we fight that thing. Finally got it in though. If it wouldn't have given us such a fight, it would have been pretty easy too.
First impressions after a 5 minute drive...boy do I need to mess with the TV cable. Shifts happen a little late and are quite hard. I'll mess with it more tomorrow, as well as give a little more input about the stuff. Hopefully a converter will soften up the shifts a little, but the TV cable might do the trick.
Oh...and Bruce....you were wrong about how much fluid this HUGE pan was going to drink. You told me to go get a case...thanfully I had more sitting here at home. It took a whole 12.5 qts....not 12 like you said.
Big thanks to Bruce though...just had to give him a little sh!t.

You mean he was a whole half a qt. off...... geez, he must be slipping alittle in his old age (senior moment I guess?!)... LOL :D

Hey Dan what part of IL. you from?

Hey Mark,
I'm about 45 minutes west of you on I-80 in Ottawa.
Yeah....Bruce was wrong. ;)

Well, after messing with the TV today, the car is now shifting at what seems to be the correct time. It might be holding on to each gear a little too long...but it's OK. Funny thing is, I don't think that the adjustment is working as it should. If I push the button and push the line all the way towards the firwall and then let go of the button...then get in the car and push the pedal to the floor...it clicks prolly 2 times and should be adjusted per factory spec...right? It holds on to second until almost 60mph! I think right now I have it pulled out another 3-4 clicks and it's OK. How can I tell if the adjuster isn't adjusting correctly?
Also, this thing shifts hard! It'll bark the tires at about 1/4 throttle and no boost. Part throttle is too "jerky" for me. I'm hoping that it's just the fact that the car has the stock converter in it. But it won't for long.
A higher stall converter should soften up the part throttle shifts, right?

Dan,

Try moving your TV cable forward one notch at a time. The method you used does not work well. You want to make sure at full throttle, yo have full TV. The factory adjustment method usaully gives less than full throttle. The TV cable is stretched out and inhibiting the the throttle from opening fully. Moving the cable towards the radiator will soften your shifts, as well as shift earlier. The tranny thinks your are giving the engine less throttle for the desired road speed.

Wrong???????

And you need less tv. That is all.

You know that little gold washer or shim you installed? It was what 1/8 th inch thick? Thats how far in from stock setting tv you will have to be. ALWAYS ALWAYS readjust TV, ANYTIME you play with anything. Do not assume the other setting will work. With our stuff, line and other pressures are raised and before you had the cable about ripped out of linkage tight just to make trans function half way right. Now you have more cable slack to play with and more pressure so all has to be reset. That is your only problem. And .5 quart? Naaa Thats is what you spilled, I was really correct, you just spilled a little..LOLOLOLOL :D

Bruce,

I came to same conclusion after putting in your Pressure Regulator System and Shift Kit. Seems like I need a lot less TV as you said. And yes previously I needed as tight as possible. So I'm just wondering what is the best method to adjust it now? I click at a time looser? or a click at a time tighter. thanks.

A click at a time looser till you got it where you want it. Always good to have a pressure gauge around.

A pressure gauge huh?
If I can get my hands on one, what should I look for?
And where do I test it?
Never played with a pressure gauge for line pressure in a tranny before.

Also, damn car has a little tranny leak. Can't even tell where it's coming from. It's leaving about a 1-2" spot on the garage floor after sitting all night. It must think it's a Harley or something.
Bruce, you sure I should have used black rtv to seal that pan up?
Not just the gasket?
