I just got back from the track with the silver GN, and ran a best of 11.10@125 only running 22psi boost.
60' 1.5999 7psi launch
330' 4.5939
594' 6.690
1/8 7.1420
mph 97.18
1000' 9.2681
1/4 11.1020
mph 125.00
It was popping on the top of every gear like it was hitting the rev limiter. O2's were 760 to 780, still needs some more fuel. I wanted to make one more run launching with some boost to break into the 10's, but decided to take it home while it was still in one piece. Next year, harder launch, and some more boost.
The turbo Cutlass ran 12.15@110, popping because the egr gasket blew and created a vacuum leak and a bad exhaust leak. I guess 11's will have to wait till next season.

I will be straight forward.
Sounds like the convertor is slipping too much and the car really isnt put under a load down the track.

If its popping at the top of every gear, i can only think that the trans is slipping, and the car should not bounce off the limiter at every gear, your killing the car doing that.

It doesnt need more fuel, it needs to shift, ....... tighten it down some..

Sounds like you have enough convertor to go really..FAST....

125MPH at that ET doesnt sound like much slippage to me. That's really good MPH for that ET, about 3-4 more MPH than I would expect at that ET.

A 28MPH gain in the last half is really good for that ET.

I was thinking about the popping all night, and it does it in the burnout too, at mid rpms too. I will try changing coil packs. I am running AC CR42TS plugs gapped at a tight .032. It isn't a pop per say, it is more like one quick stutter. On a run, it only did it going into 2nd, and on the last run, going into 3rd too. The trans doesn't seem to be slipping, I need to get an exhaust on it so I can hear the rpm drop. The trans is an unkown that came in a car I parted out, it shifts great. My factory tach is pegged the whole run, but according to the scanmaster, the factory tach is pegged in the red at 4600rpm, so I don't trust it. The mph is so low in the 1/8 because of the popping I think. After my first run, I thought, this thing isn't picking up 20 in the last 1/8, then I realized my math was wrong, and I crapped my pants. All of my runs were between 124.5 to 125.00 with the 1/8 95.92 to 97.18. This is with the converter unlocked as it is a single disc. I had 1.5° of knock at the most, and it was at 64mph, nothing at the big end. I was pretty happy for the first time out with this car since 2000, it was a big difference from the 12.5's it used to run with no intercooler. I was only expecting to hit 120mph with around 25psi. The car weighed 3800 with me in it before with aluminum wheels, it now has steel street stars. I only made 4 passes, adding fuel each run. I quit because the popping didn't stop.
All of the parts on this car were bought off TB.com members except for the cam and the injectors which I got from Mike Licht. The heads are a home port job, and the engine is a 79,000 mile short block out of a wrecked 87 GN I bought from a board member. I built this car for cheaper than I bought my old 86 GN.

The valve springs are the ones that come in the Full Throttle kit. I don't think this thing would see 6000 with a stock transmission. The car I got it out of had a TA49 on it that was smoked, and the normal simple upgrades, so I am assuming this tranny only has a shift kit. It should be shifting around 5000? When it was in the other car, it had a stock turbo when I got it, and the shifts were right on time with a stock cam and turbo.

That car was haulin' AZZ,The taillights looked good to me,Nice talking to you.I ended up going an 11.27 @ 118.

Nice meeting you. Cool conversion. That little brown car was moving. Good job on the 11.27. 10's aren't too far away. My brother's Cutlass was running 24lbs and I forgot we were running mostly 94 octane from taking it to Quaker Steak for the car show. That might have been his popping problem. We did however still pick up 2mph by adding the rubber flapper that goes from the grill to the core support. The car seemed like the intercooler was heat soaking at the top end of the track before. He is adding a Powerstroke intercooler for next spring hoping for mid 11's with the stock turbo. These cars are a disease, but a fun one.

Meaning it was bad. The EGR gasket blowing out was not allowing the car to idle, so we quit running it so it could still be driven home in one piece. I changed the egr gasket last night, and all is well. It is amazing how a $.20 part can ruin a day.
