I have had the worst transmission trouble. Picked my car up on Janurary 8th. Since I picked it up it doesn't shift hard. I put everything in it Art Carr has to offer. My friend took his car here and it will snap your neck. When I open it up it tries to shift at about 5000 to 5200 rpm and it slips up to over 6000 rpm. I about blew my motor the other night trying to figure out what was the problem. I don't have but 300 miles on the transmission. I am wondering if the converter could be bad. I don't know what else to do. Somebody please help. Thanks.

No, that doesn't sound like the converter.

There are a lot of variables here that could cause such a symptom such as:
  • TV cable adjustment - Extremely critical and easy to check.
  • Fluid level - Filling a new transmission and converter takes patience. It can initially appear to be full, but after running it through the gears some, circulating & filling passages, often more is needed. It is always best to run it through the gears on jackstands while filling it to prevent friction material damage from slippage.
  • Bad component - The transmission may have inadvertantly recieved a bad pump component, separator plate, etc. causing low line pressure. It's always a good idea to verify proper operating pressures with a gauge before taking to the street.
  • Builder error - Something could be amiss with the rebuild; it can happen to the best of us. Again, a pressure test removes doubt.

That being said, I would recommend returning to the builder ASAP.
