I used a turbolink today. as I accelrated everything is ok ,Wot and 11lbs ( store bought gauge) the ret. was at 12.4. I'm running 91 octane and the car is stock. My speedo doesnt work, and i noticed the clamp on the back of the motor hits the firewall. Could that be the problem? Any sugestions would help. Thanks.

knock retard

anything that bangs, rattles and clangs can cause the knock sensor to make the ECU produce knock retard.

Tim, the interior of your car is awesome. The Lear-Seigler GN interior is really stricking :)

I'm hoping somebody that has already solved the mechanical problem of coolant lines contacting the firewall will chime in here....There was some contact between the turbo and the heat shield also.

We need to know how others have solved this problem in the past: Engine tie down? Motor mounts? Big hammer applied in the right place? ;)

Your conservative approach to tuning your car is going to pay off Tim. Running on your lowest boost setting until you iron out this KR issue is very wise

I'm Going today to see if a motor mount or something is wore out. I'm also going to play with that heat sheild behind the turbo. Any one had this problem before? Once I get all the rattles out I'll have to check the knock retard, again. Hopefully we'll see better results!

Saw and rode in a Turbo Trans am yesterday!!!!!!!!! It was the first one I've ever seen in real life and Thanks to Lee (lburou ) I've got to go for a ride!!!! I'd like to thank Lee for letting me hook up to his turbolink and see what was going on with my car..

THANKS AGAIN!!!

My pleasure Tim :)

To check the motor mounts, just watch the engine as someone else brake-torques the RPM to about 2,000. If the mounts are bad, you'll see a LOT of engine rotation toward the right side. That movement toward the passenger fender side is what allows the coolant lines to impact the firewall.

Who makes an engine tie down for the 84/85 TR?

I bet we could adapt the engine anchor I showed you yesterday and check for mechanical causes of knock.

Cheers :)

No one has ever made a tiedown for the hotairs. I searched all over because my bigger turbo would rub on the hood. Poly motor mounts would be your best bet. You could always throw in some 100 octane and see if the KR disappears just so you know if it's false or not.

yup, poly mounts will solve all your problems.i've got em on both sides of my car.

i also removed the heat shield and the heater control valve and it's related clusterfvck behind the turbo.my heater core went bad and i had a local shop build me one with the nipples going straight out and down.my hoses go directly from the water pump to the heater core and i put a small 1/4 turn valve in the pressure side.on in the winter, off in the summer.

later,sean
