I've got a K&N now but I'm wondering if a foam would be better. I see slot f turbo cars with them and my friend with his fwd turbo regal that traps 126 just switched to one and loves it. Says u can hear it spool more etc etc

has your friend done any back to back testing to compare a K&N to the foam filter to get some real world data on which one is better?

I ran a HKS foam filter on My Turbo Fairlady in Japan with no issues.

Ive been looking at the AEM filters for the GN they dont get dinged and bend like the K&N. Seen a guy twist one and it popped back to shape.

I always preferred the K&N over foam but it was just a personal preferance.

I use AEM Dryflow, Great filter never going back

Having used K&N, spectre,S&B etc, I would recommend Dryflow for any car,

Ok looks like were getting some votes for both . Anyone with real world data that knows if one if better?

Real word data would be helpful in this case.

Here's why.

A company seling foam filters is going to say anything they can to downplay the effectiveness of a cotton/wet filter. Why, because they wanna make money. How do they make money? By turning cotton filter users to foam via clever advertizing. Now the cotton filter boys have to up their game to compete (i think all of K&N's products have remained the same for 20 years, they see no reason to change)....when there was no competition to speak of early on. Now its a war between filter companies.

The only thing I can add to the answer is....I have been using cotton/wet filters (K&N) for 20 years with no ill effects. I have no compelling reason to change. The sound a filter produces has nothing to do with why I purchase an air filter. The fact that my oil stays clean and the ease of use are why I stick with K&N.

Foam degrades over time, faster than lets say.....cotton fiber. Foam is a petrochemical. I don't want that in my investment.

There's my two cents.

I would also add that if you can deform the shape of a foam filter and then have it snap back to original shape.....then what do you think that filter is doing at 25 psi under the hood? Not saying it would collapse, but who knows.

I know what the K&N is doing. Filtering air.

FWIW the filter i mentioned was NOT foam. I dont have one just simply looking into it

I can't help with real Data but there are around 60$ or so, Give your TR a early Xmas gift and order one, it will be the best Filter your money can buy.
I even have a spare that i kept for no downtime, even tho it doesn't take long to clean/dry. ;)

Not only does it filter great, flows awsome, it's also lite, kepts it's shape.
