Kirban's pcv check valve

i have one of these on my car. about 8 years old. replaced the pcv valve the other day, and figured i'd check to see if the check was working. i couldn't blow through(from pcv side) or suck through(from vaccum side). should i be able to by mouth, or am i not able to create enough pressure with my mouth?

I think Kirbans requires more pressure/vacuum, do a low pressure shop air check on it.

Cleaning them out with some solvent helps too if there's oil or sludge in it.

When mine was new, the spring pressure was too much to overcome with forceful breath. At least it's still blocking the crankcase from boost and if it idles ok, it's probably fine.
