Some animal of some sort is making mazes through my lawn by ripping the grass up making little pathways. I thought maybe a mole but everything I read shows that they go underground and lift the dirt. I see no molehills or anything. Its almost like it parts the grass and lifts the grass up and I end up with these dead pathways. Here are some pics below. Could someone tell me what it is and how to combat this? Its gotten twice as worse as last year.

Looks like Moles and Voles. Pick you up some traps off ebay cheap

Watch the movie Caddyshack for a few ideas of ways to get rid of those varmits :)

Looks like mole runs that have sunk it from rain or been dug up from my Rat Terrier.

The third picture looks a little deeper because we have mild flooding in heavy rains and the water makes its way down the pathways making them look more pronounced. But the first 2 pictures are what is really going on.

Yeah looks like moles. Little known fact is that many species of moles are on the endangered species list. Crazy right? In NC where I work the "legal" way to do it is to have an expert come out and determine which mole you have and if it is one of the endangered then you can't do anything but if it is one of the non endangered then you can trap or bait it. The smart way and the most effective way is to get rid of there food source. They eat grubs. Get you a good grubacide and put it out on your lawn and they should soon move on to someone elses lawn. There are a few fertilizers that have this already in it.

As what was already stated it looks like mole runs that have been washed out by rain. I used to have a lot trouble with them when I live in MI. I spent lots of money on getting rid of the grubs whcih the moles eat. The problem was the grubs kept coming back and so did the moles. I eventually bought some traps and found the loop style to work very well. One summer I bet I caught 5-6 a week. Once the mole was caught and it was a big one they would work themselves to the surface. The buzzards would come and eat the dead moles from the traps. Often I would come home from work and find the mole traps 15-20 yards from where I set them with no mole as the buzzards already took care of them. Get some traps and take revenge on them. If nothing else it makes you feel better.

I would say moles, too. If you are lucky, you may even see them tunneling through your yard... then all is needed is a firm foot!

Very true. I think they do most of their moving in a 2 hour window the same time every day. I've firm footed a few. Also my cat would catch and kill them but never would she eat them.

Moles

Laugh if you want but it does work on Indiana moles (the ones that leave a tunnel) Find their RUN --use something like 3/4 in pionted rod--gently make a hole in the RUN--Use Juicy Fruit gum--must be Juicy Fruit!!!!!!--remove the paper but leave the aluminum foil on--slit the aluminum foil--insert the gum in hole--gently cover the hole--put them all over the affected area--wait 3-4 days and their activity will cease--they like the gum but can't digest the aluminum. From the pictures this is not the kind of RUNS I was having altho that very well could be a different kind of mole. Best of luck. As some stated they are after the grub worms.
