So the 43,000 mile stock BRF trans is acting up. Shifts perfect when cold, but after warming up, the downshifts are too late causing the engine to bog down and almost die. The upshifts are hard and way too quick at low speed. (1-2 shift at less than 10 mph at part throttle.) Checked fluid, looked brownish and smelled kinda burnt. Pulled the pan and filter, pan was very dirty, no big chunks, and filter was original GM and not plugged. Put a new filter/fluid, drove perfect while cold, started acting the same after 15 minutes of driving. Checked the fluid again...started to burn it again. Any ideas??

May be too late but, have you checked the TV cable adjustment? Loose= low pressure, quick/soft shifts & burned clutch frictions.:(

Replace the TCC solinoid, accessible when trans pan is down for second flush, when servicing the filter and fluid, you really only replace less than half capacity, so if original fluid was allowed to darken, you will be flushing a lot of new fluid through to get it clean, letting things go too long often brings more trouble than happiness, if you are lucky and replace solinoid to fix "hot" lugging problem and avoid major work for later, good luck.

Kevin.

ps: to verify bad TCC solinoid, disconnect electrical harness at transmission and test drive vehicle, if problem dissappears replace solinoid.
