Letters on stock rods????????

I noticed the letters A- through -F on each stock rod, right beside the rod bolt. What do they mean..........pistons 1- through -6????? Or something else????

Just a guess but maybe to identify the casting mold. I don't know.

I don't think so........ these letters were punched on after the casting process. On one rod, theres an A punched on the cap and one on the rod right above it, B on the next one and so on. It's been done with a metal punch during the build process. I'd sure like to know what they mean............I've mixed up the order of the pistons, and I need to find out which goes in which bore.
