OK finally got the 86 ecm & TT chip in & running.
Numbers;
Loop ... open/closed
Inter.......135
BLM........150
I know that these are high. Would this be the first issue i need to correct?
If not , what
How do I fix these ...High inter. & blm
Fuel Press 43#static
Thanx for any help

Yep, that would be a concern. Wont run right until those #s are in order [INT & BLM = air/fuel]. Your going to get KR. Started bringing that up in the other thread. What buickpower mentioned is first place to address. [Im not sure how to really deal with those #s at idle with a chip that will go into open loop when you are stopped though].

Integrator should be moving around (short term fuel adjustments). I tend to pay even more attention to the Block Learn Multiplier as this is the long term fuel adjustment by the ecm. With a high # like that pegged its saying that the engine is running lean and the ecm will compensate by dumping fuel. There are a # of things that can cause this so....welcome once again to the turbo buick world and one of the funnest  issues to deal with.

You can do some searching in the General Tech section and here about the BLMs. Also use your F1/Help feature in Tlink for lots of info that Ken put in there.

I will tell you also that a MAF reading at idle of 3 is a bit low, so just keep that in the back of your mind for now.

P.S. exhaust leaks to worry about are headers, crossover, and uppipe. Dp is exhaust going out and not a concern as far as affecting engine opertion.

What MAF are you using, and how many screens are in it?

Also, when cruising, what does the BLM say? Is it pegged at 150 also?

Regards,
Eric

Eric Stage I said:

Not to hijack this thread, but I was EXCITED to see Eric cruising the HA board!! I am sure you have for a long time, just don't see too many posts from you.
Simple things please simple minds I guess.

data while cruse 41 mph
191deg
closed loop
rich/lean
o2xcnts..5
ESC..172
mat 72 deg...default-not connected
RPM 1425
MAF 14
BLM..145..seems to move around, but usually on the high side.
INT...130
TPS.....76
LV8...61
o2....78mv

Exhaust ... no leaks ahead of turbo, downstream , muffler on the edge
Vacc leaks... can't hear any. OK to use the propane method to look??
MAF... used 86 1 screen outI was told it was good.
I have a Translator coming in
Eric,,Which MAF would you suggest I get??

Maybe I can figure out how to attach a T link data file of my numbers, if that would be a help.

The LT1 3" or the LS1 3.5" work good. I would use whatever fits with your intake plumbing better, probably the 3".

I can alter the chip to change the blm's, but it may be better to wait until the Translator and new MAF is on there, as the blm's may change again.

Eric

will pribably go with the LT1 as you suggest...easy fit issues. Any reccomended mods to the unit, or just put it in as it comes out of the box?
plan is to do it this weekend. I'll post to let you know the resulting numbers.Which numbers are you most interested in? or should I just attach the t link data file?
Thanx

Just use the sensor as is. Make sure the Translator base setting is set for that sensor, the WOT is at "0", and the dip switches are ON,ON,ON,OFF. Reset the ECM so the learning can start over and see where the BLM's go after the car warms up and you drive around awhile.

Regards,
Eric

If you've got the Translator in there now, you probably have the MAF base setting to "3" for the LT1 sensor. You can set it to "4" which is a richer setting that should help bring the BLM's down.

How much boost are you running? I noticed the MAF values at WOT were around 160, which doesn't seem high enough depending on boost level. You might be able to get that up higher by increasing the WOT knob in the Translator box, which should richen it up.

Regards,
Eric

Still useing the 87 maf. The translator i bought(e bay) is for a LS1 LT1, & 3800 sc. Inside the box are settings for our TR so i think it will work. I have to change the receptical on the in board side of the translator so it will plug into my MAF plug from my engine harness. I have a e mail sent to Ramchargers to make sur I can do this safely. Dont want to smoke my new LT1 MAF

Boost is at 16 #

I was concerned about the amount of retard at the top of the gear. Motor sounded like a rev limiter was in operation.

Hope after i hear from Jeff at R.C. that I'll be good to go with the Translator/LT1 set up

Eric

my translator is the wrong one. can't use the LS1, LT1 ver in our cars. i just ordered the correct Trans. from R.C. . they said i'll have it by the weekend

Know anyone who needs a LS1,LT1 translator ,,,,cheep!!!

Eric

New translator & MAF(Impalla) in.
Note, TPS...... .43 idle-had to set a bit high,(idles fine) to get the WOT to 4.61v
Translator....Base-4
....WOT-2

ait temp sensor not in yet, so at default....76deg

Data file attached.

Well your BLM's look good now. For the knock, you can try and add more WOT fuel in the Translator since it's not pegged at 255 yet. But most likely you're going to have to reduce boost a couple psi.

Eric

Tps

Hey fritz I just tweaked my TPS on Saturday, had to remove it and cut the bottom "moon slots" threw with a band saw. I read some where that you could file them threw but I'm a machinist and the band saw was much quicker, anyway I had the same thing as you before I cut them threw. You need to get the TPS higher than the stock slots will allow, the motor really woke up after I did this, and I got a .42 at idle and a 4.85 at WOT, hope this helps. Chuck

Eric

see attached file.
current set up
Translatorat; base-4 WOT-4
Gas---100 oct
Re adj TPS ,see file

Questions;
1. engine temps seem to go up all the time. 220 today. 50 deg outside. I'm planning on the IROC rad/ RC elect fans. Hope to get the temp under control
2. With the trans settings set to 4 each, am I possibly masking some other problem? eg.vacc leak somewhere
3. Motor seems to still break up at the top of the gear. like a coil/mod problem. Just put in new GM coil /mod. 3 mo. ago????

Any suggestion appreciated

I know you've already replaced the 84 MAF but just a FYI, the 84 MAF with the 87 ECM will make it run rich.
