Is the first pic an old Busch car/engine? I had no idea they used coilpacks. I'm sure there's a bunch of guys on this site thinking "If they'd convert to a distributor they'd pick up a bunch of horsepower"

I didnt get much time to read cause i was tryin to keep up with a 5 and a 3 year old lol...But i do beleive they said it was a busch series engine..and the indy engines were makin 750hp

interesting turbo location in the 2nd pic. I had to look twice.

Those engines look sweet with the hand made plenums.

Anytime!!! In hindsight i wish i had taken more pics the pulley setup on the indy engine was nothin like i had ever seen before theres a plate on the front of the motor like an LS motor with everything even the oil pump incorporated into it ..It would be nice to know how they were makin all that horsepower 15 plus years ago without all the technology we have now..The indy guys did it and buddy ingersoll also did it i think theres a lot we still dont know about our evil lil 6 cylinders:biggrin:!!!

Where they forging their own cranks out in the barn or what? Seriously though I wonder who was producing the parts for these cars, or did they have magic recipes for some stock parts? Or was custom grinding for parts always around?

When I bought my two Stage 2 motors from Bahari Racing in Mooresville, NC in 1999 they were both distributor equipped. Bahari informed me that Busch series cars were limited to 500 HP and when presented with the dyno sheets for both motors they read 498 and 499. They also told me these motors were used by Michael Waltrip during his Busch days.

Great pics! Alot of people were not aware of Buick's involvement in motorsports in the mid-80's / early-90's. The Indy engine program along with the IMSA/GTP stuff was top-notch. They were VERY competitive with their little Stage 1 & 2 "stock blocks".

It's a shame that Buick didn't have a production platform to support all of that technology. I think Buick shifted focus around 88/89 and decided to built "premium" cars so that pretty much cancelled out their motorsport program.

I remember the Indy cars ran around 48 lbs boost. They could get the pole every year but struggled to stay togather for 500 miles. The busch cars ruled the tracks for years. Some of the busch cars had the bent 6 decals on them. The number 6 car had the bent 6 as the car number.A lot of neat buick v-6 stuff happening in the late 80's.

im not trying to jack your thread man but here's some i found awhile ago.
