I found problems with body mounts at the rear of car. I posted in the restoration thread. it seems that there is more action here.
Any advice or experience with this will be helpfull.
Thanks
Robert

rotted body mounts

i was looking into the rattles in the car. what i found in position 6 on driver side was the bolt broke off and the mounting hole in the frame rusted larger than others. on paasenger side in position 6 and 7 the bolts are loose end they just spin neither loosening or tighting all other mounts seem good.
this was a wisconsin car and original owner took great care of it maintanance records show at least 2 undercoatings from dealer. so most everything else looks good .

sorry for not giving the info here though it would be read on other post.
all responses welcome

It's common on these cars. Ran into the same BS. Before you get too crazy and start cutting the floor, grab onto the ass end of the car with an engine hoist connected to the trunk striker. Put some tension on the rear and try to turn the body bolt by hand and see if the bolt starts to loosen. Had two on the passenger side like this.

As far as the rotten frame holes are concerned, that's your decision. You can get the washers from gbodyparts (I have extras if you need some) and you can double them up on the frame which I think is bogus.....OR you can do it the right way and yank the whole frame out and cut out the bad stuff and weld the washers in. If I can do it with all of my awesome tools in my kick ass garage, you can too:cool:

If you need to look at some pics to see what's involved, visit "my progress thread" in the restoration forum.

...just another day helping out a hot air guy;););)

Good advise....I wouldn't cut the floor either....that just creates another place that needs to be fixed!

Jesse....You're just a wanna-be hot air guy, that's all....:p

Keep it up and I'll go buy that huge ass turbo lesabre and I will be a hot air guy-CARB STYLE:biggrin:

cutting floor

two of the blind nuts are broke loose so applying preasure to remove the bolts makes sense. but what about securing the loose nuts in side the body to screw new bolt into i have to open it up some way to do that.
i agree not really wanting to add any more repairs
keep the ideas coming i can never have to much information.
Thanks robert

If I was you I would buy all new body bolts. Gbody and kirbans sells kits I believe. I got my mounts and bolts through gbody in a package deal.

When you take these bolts out, lube them while they're in there and run them up and down a few times to clean the threads up on the body nuts. Do this before you take the bolts all the way out.

When you put the new bolts in, it will be trick but just take your time. Hopefully the cage that the nut sits in isn't totally busted out so you have some hope puttin the new bolts in. Use lots of spray lube like wd40 or pb blaster. Try to get the tip of the bolt started by hand. Once you get that far pull down on the bolt to get some tension on the nut while you hand thread it in as much as you can get it. When you get this far you can put a ratchet on it and pull down on the bolt at the same time. When you can't get it any farther hook the hoist back up to the car and pull the rear up. Put all the body bolts in by hand and just snug them. Keep in mind when you lift the rear you have a whole car lifting up, so make sure the rest of your bolts are loose enough to compensate. It's gonna be an all day event with this scenario, between making sure the shell is centered on the frame and scooting around under the car tightening all the bolts. It can be done.

Don't make the mistake I did and "torque" them to specs. Just snug them. Then after a few drives check them all. Take your time to make sure the car is sitting straight as possible. Have fun...bwah ha ha ha;)

project complete

decided to cut open floor in the trunk. position 6 on both sides had rusted thru the body where the caged nuts mount. I had enough room to remove the mount thru the trunk. on both sides i cleaned up the frame holes and cut down a 1 1/2 washer to fit and welded into frame. then made a patch plate to cover the hole in the body drilled a hole and made a new nut and welded all in place. pass side pos 7 caged nut came loose and the bolt broke. made a nut and welded in place. still have to patch the trunk floor. all the rest of the mounts changed out with no problems.
thanks to all that reponded with advice
Robert
