Hi, I currently have a 67 Mustang but looking to sell it and get a Grand National. I have found an 87 Grand National for sale that I plan to go take a look at . It has 80,000 miles. Is there any common areas/issues with these cars that I should be looking for?

Thanks

Nice to see another "me too" owner coming to the dark side. We like to give Mustang owners a hard time so just roll with the punches. It's all in good fun.

Where are you going to be looking at this car? It is helpful to take a knowledgeable Turbo Buick owner with you. There are a lot of members that are always willing to help people in your situation out. Last fall I helped a guy find an 86 GN.

There is several different things to look out for. As far as rust on the body just check everywhere. The bottom of the doors is a good tell tell sign for the rest of the car. Check out the fluid levels and make sure the idiot lights are working and the SES light isn't on. There is a RPO tag on the inside of the trunk lid that you can match to the VIN on the dash and cowl. On the RPO tag you should see the code WE2 for a GN. You can get the other codes for most of the options from gnttype.org. There is a lot of reading you will need to do. After you purchase a car you will want to do the spring cleaning that is on that website as well. Another great website full of info is http://www.vortexbuicks-etc.com/

Finish filling out your profile so that we know where you are located.
If you are looking at a car in the northeast make sure you take a knowledgeable turbo Regal person with you due to the rust issues that are prevalent there!!! How long has the owner had the car? What has been done as far as modifications/upgrades ? Stock parts come with the car? Paperwork ? Accidents? Repainted? T Top car may have rust under the tops...Transmission shift correctly? Engine idle smoothly? Lots of things to check, I have touched on a few and could go on. Dont be in a hurry to buy one, do your homework and you will be happy with your purchase. Good luck !!

Yup!
What the others said. Try not to get too much of a fixer-upper. It will cost you more in the long run. If you go and take a look at the car, take a few pics and post them up. Here's a picture of my GN.:D

Thanks for the replies. I filled out my location in my profile. Middle of nowhere in Nova Scotia Canada so chances are there are no grand national experts in my area, but who knows, I may be lucky. No issues with taking jabs on the Mustang, ever hear of 'Happy Wife Happy Life' that is how I ended up with the Mustang. I have a 289 mustang coupe 2 barrel carb, and would be lucky to outrun a dodge minivan (I also had an 87 and a 99 mustang which we have since sold both). I always wanted a Grand National, finally convinced my better half to get one. The one I am going to look at is in storage, so more of a preliminary visual inspection for now. He does not plan on posting it up for sale for a few months, until the snow is gone. He is asking $14,000 for it and it is an 87. After I posted my questions I found a lot of information on this site on what to look for, great site with tonnes of information. Great looking car SPOOLFOOL2. I am in the process of trying to arrange to set up a time to look at the car where it is currently stored, hopefully I will b able to arrange this this week. I will be sure to post up some picks, any other tips to b on the lookout for would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I only hope my future ex-wife doesn't have a problem with me having 5.
If so - that will probably make 6.
I'll likely need something to get my mind off the breakup. :D

We've got quite a few Turbo Buick owners in The Great White North. Did you notice my 67 GTA behind the GN in the photo?;)

Too funny, the most I could manage is two cars right now as I only have a two car garage. I guess the next step would be building a bigger garage.

Ya. I noticed it right after I posted. I will trade you for my 67 coupe.....:clown:

How about I'll trade you some of my Mustang parts and you send us some of that good beer you guys have.:D
