So my block is pretty much stock with plenty of bolt ons. From what I here the cam has some sort of plastic lined gears and the stock valve springs suck. Pretty sure Im getting valve float. Anything else I need to upgrade to make the stock block decent for now? Will eventually get heads and cam but for now just trying to improve on what I got. Also have the RJC power plate and 60lbs injectors but the rest of the block is stock. Turbo, exhuast, etc has been upgraded. Thanks. Are the parts below what I need?

What's this for a daily driver? Weekend cruiser? Makes a difference to a degree but for sure new springs! Then either a new Stock GM timing chain or the double roller from Mike. For the cam, if yours is good then leave it alone. If not & its bad then lifters & a 208 or a 214 from Erson Cams! They are great cams & the 214 pulls hard & with good lifters is very quiet.
Other than that new bearings etc. Also an upgraded Rollerized spring for the cam nose.
Also, since buying parts if you dont have a scanmaster Get One! Best $$$ spent!

The timing chain has plastic coated teeth & they only last 100-200 K miles so they must really suck??? I dont get why people say that?? The Original GM lifters are Bi-Metal & Superior to any of the stuff out there now by far!!
The Sealed Power & Erson lifters are good but not like NOS GM! I just sold my last set. GM has them but are $20 each or more!! They are better but not worth that much to most people.

Well the cam feels fine and the only thing Im worried about is that if I put stronger springs the cam might go flat due to the increased stress. so are the parts below the right parts? Are all the timing chains from FT double rollers? Thanks

Stock replacement valve springs installed at the correct height with the correct spring pressure will not ruin a stock cam. I have done many replacements with no ill affects. I do however check the installed height and pressure of spring just to ensure that they are on the money.

The chain set can be replaced with many available. I however I go to my local advance store and purchase the stock replacement speed pro set. Works exactly as factory, is a direct replacement and will work fine in even a modified engine with flat tappet cam.

Clean all parts and reassemble and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps

So to check/adjust the correct installed height the heads pretty much have to be off. You could check the spring pressure of the car but is there a way to correct installed height say if you have to machine the heads? If thats the case I might just throw on some Champoin irons. How hard is to convert Champion irons set up for flat tappet cams to roller cam? Whats is needed/different?

No need to take the heads off to check the installed height. It takes some time but can be doone on the car.

Well I guess you can check them but if the height is to high then you have to pull the heads to machine them down to the right hieght, if they are too low then you can put shims in them to correct without pulling heads. Right?
